Let’s not become enamoured with what’s keeping us from moving boldly into all God has for us. Fear. Resignation. Settling for smallness. Retraction. These things can hold us hostage: we’ve got to see them for what they are and fight to break free!

A lot of us think that there’s a giant leap of faith that we have to undertake in order to follow God through the wilderness and into our own personal Canaan flowing with milk and honey. Yet no one has ever undertaken a leap of faith either within the Bible or without. The Bible never mentions leaps- only steps. It’s the steps of faith that lead to the vaults of heaven. Most prayers have a lot to do with making us better, more holy and more acceptable to God. They’re about all we can do for God. Yet the Bible declares we love him BECAUSE He first loved us. To ask God to firstly show you His glory is not ancillary but mandatory to rekindling our love affair with heaven and then swimming the deepest oceans because of it. For many, it’s the more excellent prayer.
