THE TOXIC PURSUIT OF FAME // Mark 9:30-37
The disciples get caught arguing over who among them is the greatest. Jesus sits them down and turns their definition of greatness on its head.
Greatness in the kingdom is not about fame, profile or how big your bank balance is, it’s about humility and servanthood.
The epidemic of scandal and abuse in the church today is the toxic fruit of leaders pursuing fame and glory. These leaders didn’t set out to be abusive, they set out to be groundbreaking, amazing, unique, cutting edge, these ambitions drove them to discard the weak and vulnerable and to use people rather than love them. The church needs to rediscover Jesus’s teaching on Kingdom greatness for this hour.
