Luke 18 | Jesus is on His way to Jerusalem. Luke tells us many stories of Jesus as He passes through Jericho. Today, Luke highlights three stories that challenge our value system. What are the requirements of God's Kingdom anyway?
Today we continue to dive into the original story of Jesus' birth. Turns out so much of what we know about this story comes from movies and your grandmother's nativity set. Join us today as we set the record straight from the Gospel According to Matthew.
Today we tell the story of Jesus on His first birthday. Like, the stories out of the Bible, and try to correct in our minds all the errant lyrics from all our favorite Christmas songs and movies. Turns out there is less to the story than all those carols tell us about!
Luke 18 | Today Jesus teaches us again on persistent prayer. There is injustice in the world. We see it. God sees it. But what are we to do about it?
Have you ever wondered what it truly means when everything changes in the blink of an eye? Pastor Ron masterfully unpacks Jesus' teachings about the kingdom of God and the day of the Lord, drawing from Luke 17 and weaving together powerful Old Testament parallels of Noah, Lot, and Moses. Through vivid storytelling, he reveals how God's kingdom isn't about spotting signs or predicting dates, but rather recognizing that it's already present among us. Pastor Ron brings fresh perspective to apocalyptic language, explaining that it's not about doom but about unveiling hidden truths. He emphasizes Jesus' practical wisdom: when that day comes—like lightning across the sky—we must be ready to move forward without looking back at our earthly attachments. The message culminates in an urgent reminder that while judgment is certain, Jesus offers himself as our savior who "pays it all." Through this powerful teaching, we're challenged to live today as citizens of God's kingdom, keeping our eyes fixed forward and our hearts ready for the moment when God gets His way.
This exploration of Luke 17 challenges us to reconsider what it truly means to live as people who have been bought with a price. We're confronted with Jesus' radical teaching about servanthood—not the modern idea of being appreciated for our work, but the ancient reality of belonging completely to someone else. The historical context reveals something profound: in the ancient world, slavery wasn't always about oppression but often about debt relief, where people sold themselves to escape crushing financial burdens. Jesus uses this imagery to help us understand our spiritual position. We didn't just get a little help from God; we were completely bankrupt, unable to pay the debt of our sin. Christ paid it all, purchasing us entirely. This means we don't serve God to earn His favor—we serve because we already belong to Him. The message isn't about guilt but about right-sizing our egos and recognizing the truth: we are servants who have simply done our duty. Yet here's the beautiful paradox: the God who owns us completely also calls us friends. When we embrace this humble position, we discover true freedom. We stop performing for applause and start living with gratitude. We stop climbing ladders to impress others and start kneeling in thankfulness to the One who lifted us from our debt and gave us eternal life.
