  • Deciding to Know Nothing

If you're like me, you're accustomed to pretending to know more than you actually know. There are good and bad reasons to do this, but it's mostly pride. And Paul tells the church in Corinth that when he came to them he decided to know nothing other than Christ crucified. Maybe instead of pretending to know more, we need to decide to know less.

  • Don't Give Up

Discouragement is a very real enemy. Once filled with passion with no actual obstacles in our way, the smallest discouragement can stop us in our tracks. How can we hold onto the exhortation from Paul to never give up?

  • Every Opportunity

In Ephesians, Paul's encouragement to us is to be wise. Telling us to be tuned in to God's will for our lives. This isn't the advice we give one another or ourselves. We'd rather be popular, successful, rich, etc. How can we make the most of every opportunity?

  • Praying Without Words

We've taken a look at praying through scripture, praying other people's words, and now we look at praying without words. If prayer is a means to help us connect with the Spirit of God, we cannot just pray by speaking words. That's not how relationships work. We need to give room for the Spirit to reply.

  • Praying Other People's Prayers

I'm not sure when it happened, but there seems to be this prevailing thought that our prayers must be unique and spontaneous or else they don't count. Those types of prayers are great, but if that's the only way we pray we put undue pressure on ourselves and make ourselves and our emotions the center of our prayers. There is much to be gained by borrowing the prayers of those who have come before us.

  • Praying Scripture

Jesus' disciples asked him how to pray and disciples of Jesus are still asking that question today. I've found that many are hesitant to share specifics on how they pray. We are encouraged to do it, but we aren't told how. If, like me, prayer doesn't come naturally to you this can make your prayer life a constant struggle. We'll spend three days looking at three different ways to pray in hopes of helping you incorporate them into your own practices.

  • Comparison Kills

Comparison kills contentment, relationship, and every good effort. Yet comparison is something we all partake in. In fact, comparison is the water we swim in. How do we work to kill comparison before it kills us?

  • Waiting for Peace

Paul's familiar words in Philippians 4 tell us of a peace that is beyond human understand, yet it is accessible to us. How can we tap into that peace?

  • Set Your Heart & Mind

Remember the time before smartphones? At least twice a year you had to actually set your clocks. You had to do something about it, it didn't just happen. And even now you may have microwave, oven, or clocks in your car that you manually have to set to make sure they are oriented correctly. In Colossians, Paul says we have been given the calling and the power to set our heart and minds in the right direction.

  • Our Real Enemy

Most of the time we end up falling prey to our circumstances. Good circumstances lead to us feeling good, bad circumstances lead to us feeling bad. But I bet there have been moments in your life where your emotions were not tied to your circumstances. When we recognize our real enemy, we can lean into the Spirit of God and transcend our circumstances.
