The American church is so ineffectual today because we are so divided. We look for a church that fits our exact niche and if anything happens there that upsets us, we leave and find another one. But God’s heart is for us to be a family – closely united under Christ in this spiritual battle we are in. Holding one another up, encouraging one another, helping one another grow closer to Jesus.

There are incredible parallels between the first century church in Corinth to which Paul wrote this letter we will be studying and the church in America. First century Corinth was a very wealthy and prosperous place. America is wealthy and prosperous. But the church in Corinth was in trouble and so is the church in America. Somewhere around 8,000 churches die in the United States every year. That means 150 will die this week. Less than 20% of Americans attend church on a regular basis. Studies show that like the Corinthians, when it comes to morality, we are indistinguishable from the world. And we are paying the price.
