The issue of abortion is often seen as a purely political one, because sadly it is engaged almost exclusively in the political arena. But God ordains all truth as His and, to those who say politics has no place in the pulpit, I say any power to affect change that the church ignores, will be forfeit to the world of darkness.

Experts say we have a sleep debt bigger than the national debt. An estimated 24,000 people die every year in car accidents caused by sleep deprivation and fatigue. Studies have found that people who don’t get enough rest show a similar reaction time to people who are legally drunk.

Not getting enough rest makes life very hard. It is hard to be patient when you’re tired. It’s hard to be compassionate when you’re tired. It’s hard to follow Jesus when you are tired. Half a century ago, pastor Vance Havner said, “Never have I preached to so many tired people as now.” Did you know that Jesus got tired too? He got worn down. And today He wants to show us how to rest. He knows how tired we are. And He is inviting us to lay our heavy burden down and find rest.

Human history is not a human project, it is a divine project. Your life is not a human project, it is a divine project. And the way out of the brokenness and disappointment of trying to wear the crown is to stop trying to secure ourselves by names or reputation or the way we dress and simply allow Jesus to be the King … and watch how He takes care of everything so much better than us.
