If our faith is derived from our own successes, associations, and comfort, the trials we inevitably encounter will leave us hopeless. In our attachment to our own design, we can each be as stubborn and recalcitrant as a donkey who digs in his heels when his master tries to lead him. Or we can recognize that we are responsible to endure the suffering that produces character, and character hope.
