One of the most exciting periods of church history took place in the first three centuries in which the gospel of Jesus Christ spread rapidly throughout the Roman empire. In a culture that was saturated with idol worship, immorality, and fear, people longed to hear of a God who was holy, powerful, and just – yet a God who also showed mercy to repentant hearts that would acknowledge Him as the true King of the world. As churches preached this great message, and demonic powers resisted it, some believers were tempted to lessen their devotion to God. To Christians who wondered if the struggle was worth it, Jesus reminded them that He would faithfully reward them for anything they lost as they praised and preached His name.
