We have all heard the old idiom [from 1626AD], “in essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity.” I propose a fourth line, with all people, Christ-likeness [or Christ’s personality]”. With all that can be said about exercising our Liberty of Conscience, Christ-likeness is the highest goal and glory. And what is revealed in Romans 15:1-13, is the great truth, “even Christ did not please himself.” Can we say the same about our exercise of liberty in Christ? Have we attached more importance to serving ourselves, than serving Christ and his body - the Church?
