Without a clear vision, people drift. That is true in our personal lives, and it is true in the life of a church. Drawing from Colossians 1 and the Great Commission in Matthew 28, the mission of the church is to multiply disciples, declare that Jesus is Lord, and reach all people regardless of age, background, or life stage. Six core values shape what that mission looks like in practice: discipleship, missional living, prophetic community, unity, authenticity, and generosity. Every believer has a unique role to play, and the enemy's greatest lie is that someone else will step up so you do not have to. God is faithful, and He is inviting each of us to take one step of faith this week toward the mission He has already placed in front of us.

Jesus delivered seven letters to seven churches in Revelation, and each one reads like a personal performance review complete with praise, correction, and a call to action. Though written to first-century churches, these letters speak directly to believers today. One of the most sobering is the letter to Sardis, where Jesus warns a church that had a reputation for being alive but was spiritually dead on the inside. The deeper issue was self-reliance, the quiet habit of handling life without God until every other option runs out. Each of the seven letters exposes a different spiritual danger, from losing your first love to becoming lukewarm and self-sufficient. Jesus does not stop at the rebuke. He always tells us what to do next. Remember. Repent. Wake up. Overcome. These letters are not just history. They are a mirror, and the good news is that Jesus writes them not to condemn us but to call us back to life.

It is easy to follow a version of Jesus that comforts us without ever challenging us. But a watered-down Jesus, whether He is a good teacher, a therapist, or a political mascot, keeps us from experiencing the real life He offers. In Revelation 1, the apostle John gives us a vivid and powerful picture of who Jesus actually is: eternal, all-seeing, unshakable, and full of authority. He is not a guest we invite in on Sundays. He bought the house. The cross settled the question of ownership, and the only question left is whether we are living like He holds the deed. Getting a clearer view of Jesus starts with opening the Bible not just for information, but to genuinely pursue Him. The size of our vision for life will always be shaped by the size of our view of Jesus.

Life has a way of cluttering up fast, pulling our attention away from what God is doing right in front of us. Isaiah 40 calls us to prepare the way of the Lord, not by adding more to our lives, but by clearing the way for Him. The wilderness seasons we walk through are not signs of God's absence. They are often the very places where He does His deepest work in us. In Jeremiah 29, God tells His exiled people to build, plant, foster relationships, grow, and pray, right where they are, not where they wish they were. Flourishing in the wilderness is not about waiting for circumstances to change. It is about fully engaging with the life God has placed in front of you today. He has not abandoned you. He is already at work in the middle of your wilderness.

When Paul and Silas were beaten, imprisoned, and locked in stocks, they chose to pray and sing hymns at midnight. Their response was not natural. It was Spirit-led. God responded with an earthquake that shook open every door and loosened every chain, not just for them, but for every prisoner around them. Their willingness to praise in pain became the very thing that led a jailer and his entire household to faith in Jesus Christ. How we respond in crisis matters far more than we realize. Praising God in the middle of suffering may be the greatest witness we can offer to a watching world. Problems are inevitable, but being shattered by them is optional. When we trust God in the hard place, He moves, He opens doors, and He gets the glory.

When life shakes us, what comes out reveals what we have been filling ourselves with. The early Christians scattered by persecution in Acts 11 did not let their circumstances have the final word. Instead of being consumed by fear and loss, they carried the gospel into new places and a church was born in Antioch. Barnabas, described as full of the Holy Spirit and faith, walked into that community looking for where God was at work rather than what was wrong. His joy and encouragement were contagious, and many people came to faith. God also redeemed the story of Saul, the very man whose actions caused the persecution, by using him to teach and build the very church he had once tried to destroy. Being the church means walking into every room, relationship, and hard season full of grace and faith. We will all be shaken, but we do not have to be deterred.

Peter and Cornelius had no reason to be in the same room. One was a Jewish apostle bound by centuries of religious tradition, and the other was a Roman soldier seeking the living God. Yet God used a rooftop vision, a knock at the door, and a 40-mile journey to bring them together. Peter arrived at Cornelius's home, preached the gospel, and watched the Holy Spirit fall on an entire Gentile household. The moment shattered the walls Peter had spent his whole life building. God had been constructing bridges across those walls for thousands of years. The challenge for followers of Jesus today is the same: stop maintaining walls where God has already built bridges. That begins with prayer, grows through courage, and is carried out by holding truth and grace together at the same time.

Saul was brilliant, passionate, and completely wrong. His story in Acts 9 is a sobering reminder that sincerity does not equal accuracy and confidence does not equal correctness. God interrupted his life with a blinding light, not to destroy him, but to help him finally see. Then God called an ordinary, unnamed disciple named Ananias to play a quiet but pivotal role in one of the most significant moments in Christian history. Ananias was not famous or highly qualified. He was simply present, available, and willing to say yes. His one act of obedience helped set in motion a movement that would reach the entire world. You may never fully know the impact of your own obedience, but God does.

The early church in Acts 4 and 5 was not perfect, but it was real. Believers were so transformed by genuine faith that they loosened their grip on possessions and tightened their bond to one another. The story of Ananias and Sapphira is a sobering reminder that God is not interested in outward performance. He is after full surrender. When the Holy Spirit lives in us, we become His temple, and holiness is not something we can fake. The good news is that grace means we do not have to perform or pretend. Like Barnabas, true generosity and authentic community flow naturally from a heart that is fully surrendered to Christ.

Water baptism is one of the most significant steps a follower of Jesus can take, and the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8 shows us exactly why. The Ethiopian was a man of influence and faith, yet he was excluded from full participation in the covenant community because of his ethnicity and physical condition. Philip met him where he was, explained the good news of Jesus from Isaiah 53, and every barrier that had kept the man at a distance from God was removed by the cross. Water baptism is the New Covenant fulfillment of Old Testament circumcision, but with no restrictions of gender, ethnicity, or background. It does not save us, but it is our first great act of obedience in response to what Jesus has already done. The water is open to everyone because of the finished work of Christ.
