Do you find yourself having a hard time dealing with anger due to past trauma? Are you lashing out at innocent loved ones? Do you feel angry that you've lost chunks of your life? You're not alone and this is normal! There are things you can do to help. Recognize when you are getting upset. Seek out counseling or therapy. Join a support group or maybe form new friendships. Volunteer, maybe find a new job or a part-time job, get Outdoors, exercise, journal what triggered you, find a rage room. And other things may include just going somewhere safe where you can scream. Or finding a lake or river where you can throw rocks. And of course most importantly learning new positive coping skills for the anger. An easy coping skill you can use right now is to distract yourself. You can call a friend, watch a funny movie, clean your home, learn something new, practice mindfulness. Remember it doesn't have to be an expensive or grand distraction. You want something that's going to give you a little peace even if it's for a few minutes so you can clear your mind or give you a chance to breathe.

A question I'm often asked is should I stay or should I go? What you do? Personally? I made lists of all the reasons I should stay and all the reasons I should leave. These both gave clarity to help me decide. Each situation is unique and only "you" can know when enough is enough. It could take something devastating to happen or to feel as though you are at rock bottom. If a domestic abuse situation contact your local shelter for help or with questions. Remember that your healing journey is yours and yours alone it's going to look different than mine or different than your neighbor or your best friend. Remember to be kind and gentle with yourself. Remember all healing might not fix everything. You don't have to relive your trauma to heal. Try not to push yourself. And remember you may not fully heal and that's all right.

What are three things that you may be doing on your healing Journey that's stopping you?

Someone out there needs to know they are not alone and that they can survive. Perhaps you are a parent or friend of someone trapped in an abusive relationship and need to know how to help. My goal is to share awareness, offer empowerment, and educate others about emotional traumas and domestic abuse.
