In Part 12 of UnRivaled, we explore Colossians 4:5-6 and the importance of tending to what is happening inside of us. Paul calls us to walk in wisdom, redeem our time, and allow our words to be filled with grace—but Jesus reminds us that what comes out of our mouths ultimately reveals what is happening in our hearts. Through the picture of the thorny soil, we discover that spiritual fruitfulness isn't just about receiving God's Word; it's about faithfully removing the things that compete with it. People may influence us, hurt us, and create difficult circumstances, but we are responsible for tending the “thorns” that grow within our own hearts. New scenery won't give us a new heart—only the transforming work of God can do that.

In Part 9 of UnRivaled, we explore Colossians 3:12-21 and what it looks like to live out our new identity in Christ through the way we treat the people around us. Paul reminds us that who we are in Christ should directly inform how we behave, calling us to compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness, and above all, love—the bond that holds the body of Christ together. In Part 7 of UnRivaled, we continue through Colossians 2:18-23 and explore the danger of losing the reward of an authentic life in Christ by becoming entangled in man-made religion, counterfeit spirituality, and religious rules that appear wise but have no power to transform the heart. Paul warns us that anything that eclipses Christ—whether mystical experiences, self-denial, human philosophy, or spiritual systems built on human wisdom—can quietly lead us away from the One who alone gives life and growth to His people. We discover that true spiritual growth happens one way: by abiding in Christ. Like branches connected to the vine, we are nourished by remaining in continual communion with Jesus—not by performing for God, but by resting in who He is and what He has already done. In Part 6 of Unrivaled, we explore the radical nature of salvation and the complete sufficiency of the cross. Through Colossians 2:11-17, Paul reveals that salvation is not simply self-improvement or religious behavior modification—it is a divine incision, where Christ cuts away the dominion of our sinful nature and raises us to new life. We discover that the cross has canceled the record of our debt, forgiven our sins, and publicly defeated every spiritual power that stood against us. But Paul also warns us not to return to religious shadows or allow external practices to become the measure of our righteousness. Whether it is traditions, preferences, spiritual disciplines, or religious observances, none of them can rival the finished work of Jesus. This episode asks a searching question: Are the things we practice helping us see Jesus more clearly—or have they quietly become substitutes for Jesus Himself?
