🎤 Mihali
╰ Joe’s bringing a little taste of summer vibes with these picks this episode. Introduced to the artist and album by Mike, his album of choice is reggae artist Mihali’s solo debut. Despite being reggae at its core, this album features elements from several other genres, like hip hop, rock, and pop. It has something for everyone and is a solid listen from beginning to end. To drink, Kona’s flagship golden ale, the perfect complement to the album. This easy-drinker lives up to Kona’s “Liquid Aloha” tagline without a doubt. Crack it open and press play!

🎤 Tyler, The Creator
╰ Tom is going all-out pink for this episode. The guys focus on rapper Tyler, The Creator’s 5th album, which is one of Tom’s favorites. His unique combination of rap, hip hop, funk, and soul make him one of the top performers in the game right now. Tom loves this album; you may want to stick around for his rating 👀. To drink, the guys crack open the Cranberry version of The Finnish Long Drink, the latest player in the seltzer/canned cocktail game. Get to streamin’!

Cover songs can be tricky. They could either rejuvenate a classic, or entirely flop. Throughout this special episode of Hops & Bops Podcast, Joe, Mike, Tom, and their special guest, Joey, talk about their go-to cover songs. Whether they honor the original or offer a whole new take, these are the covers that hit the mark for the guys. Acoustic, live, genre-flips, and even including video game sounds (?), we have curated an eclectic mix. And, speaking of mix, our drinks! We’re taste-testing Dogfish Head’s “covers” of traditional cocktails. These ready-to-drink canned cocktails come in at 7% and offer a wide variety of flavors. Get under the covers with us (figuratively speaking) and stream the episode! PS - dive into our Covers Playlist, follow the link in our socials.

🎤 Pantera
╰ Mike has the picks this episode. The guys talk about Pantera’s commercial debut album from 1990. While this album packs and punch and is a metal assault, these guys can definitely groove, too. And, Dimebag’s guitar work is just nasty. To drink, we’ve got a beer brewed with mangos from California brewery 21st Amendment. LET’S DO THIS!

🎤 Rage Against The Machine
╰ Mike rejoins Joe and Tom for one hell of a pairing, courtesy of Joe. The self-titled debut from RATM, released in 1992, is arguably one of the strongest debut releases from any artist. This 10-(bomb)track beast features furious guitar work, a nasty rhythm section, and politically-charged vocals, which, 30 years later, still hold ground. Equally as aggressive is the beer of choice: Flying Dog’s Belgian IPA. Coming in at 8.3%, this thing is a BEER; it lives up to it’s namesake for sure. Crank this one up to 11.

💁🏻♂️ 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 “𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘆”
╰ Joe and Tom are back with special guest Paul “Canarky.” This time, Paul shares his picks. The album, released in 2018, is a compilation of B-sides and rarities from the trio’s recording career. You can hear the evolution of their sound from track to track, many of which were strong enough to be on the actual studio albums. To drink, Paul brings an extra pale ale from his beloved hometown brewery, Grey Sail. The beer was hard for Joe and Tom to find in CT, but they rose to the challenge! Enjoy the episode!

💁🏻♂️ 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹 “𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘆”
╰ Joe and Tom hold things down and bring back popular guest Paul “Canarky” to talk West Coast vibes in honor of The Big Game. We’re featuring one of this year’s Halftime Show performers, Kendrick Lamar, and his commercial debut release. Lamar’s early brilliance in lyricism and fusing hip hop and rap with jazz is on full display with this album. And yes, we dig deep into Ab-Souls Outro. To drink, Lagunitas’ aptly named “IPA,” a crushable West Coast IPA perfect for The Big Game. The guys also talk about Rams vs Bengals and past Halftime Shows. Who ya got??

🎤 Jelly Roll
╰ This episode is all Mike, and it’s a straight up snack. His album of choice is the 2020 release from Tennessee rapper Jelly Roll. His sound combines elements from rap, hip hop, rock, and country and his lyrical content is raw and personal. Completing the snack is DuClaw’s chocolate peanut butter porter, the first of its kind we’ve done on the pod. The only things left to ask are: Do you like the crusts cut off? And cut down the middle or diagonally?

🎤 Anderson .Paak
╰ In response to our high praise for Silk Sonic’s debut, Tom decides to bring an album from one half of the duo: Anderson .Paak. We walk through .Paak’s sophomore album from 2016, Malibu. With his R&B, soul, and hip hop stylings, .Paak’s impact on Silk Sonic is clear. To drink, another Abomination brew for back-to-back episodes. This time, it’s their triple dry-hopped DIPA which bids another whacky year adieu. We also get to answer the burning question: What’s with the “.” in Anderson .Paak’s name? Dig in!

🎤 Alter Bridge
╰ The guys are back in-person and dabble with a couple of Joe’s picks. He brought Fortress, Alter Bridge’s 4th album from 2013, to the table. The quartet, comprised of the instrumentalists from trash band Creed, really set themselves apart from their haunting butt-rock past on this album, flexing their hard rock and metal side. To drink, Joe brought Wandering Into The Fog, a staple DIPA from Abomination, a favorite of Hops & Bops. Do Mike and Tom agree with Joe about Alter Bridge? Or are they having trouble getting Higher out of their heads? Listen to find out!
