This Sunday, we began a new sermon series through the Gospel of Mark, returning our attention to Jesus and the arrival of God’s kingdom.

For generations, God prepared the way for His promised kingdom. Then Jesus appeared: the beloved Son, the faithful King, and the Savior who stands with sinners. In Mark 1, Jesus announces that the kingdom of God is at hand and calls ordinary fishermen to leave everything, follow Him, and become fishers of men.

The King has come, so none of us can remain neutral. Repent and believe the gospel. Confess your sins and be baptized. Follow Jesus, and call others to follow Him.

What is the only treasure that truly lasts?

In this final sermon in our series through 1 Timothy, Paul closes his letter by showing how the Gospel transforms our work, gives true contentment, calls us to remain faithful, and teaches us to invest in eternity.

Money, success, and everything in this world will eventually fade. Eternal life in Christ can never be taken away.

Join us as we hear Paul’s final charge to flee sin, fight the good fight of faith, guard the Gospel, and take hold of the life that is truly life.

What if the church really lived like a family?

In this message from 1 Timothy 5, we explore how the gospel transforms our relationships and calls us to honor older saints and wisely serve the weakest members of Christ’s church.

We pray this message encourages you to treasure God’s design for His household.

This past Sunday, while Pastor Taylor and his family were away, our own Omi Belcher faithfully opened God’s Word and preached from 1 Timothy 4:11-16.

In this passage, the Apostle Paul reminds Timothy that a pastor’s faithfulness is measured not by his age, personality, or popularity, but by his devotion to sound doctrine, his example of godliness, his commitment to the ministry of the Word, and his perseverance in the faith.

We are thankful for Omi’s willingness to serve our church and for the careful, Christ-centered way he handled the Scriptures. It is a tremendous blessing to have men within our congregation who love God’s Word and are growing in their ability to teach it faithfully.

Not everything that looks godly is godly.

In 1 Timothy 4:1-10, Paul warns Timothy about false godliness that adds to God’s Word, forbids what God has given, and burdens consciences with man-made rules. But true godliness is different. True godliness is trained by the truth, nourished by God’s Word, received with thanksgiving, and motivated by grace.

Because God is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe, sinners do not need to work their way to God. We need to stop trusting in our own righteousness and put our faith alone in Jesus Christ.

False godliness exhausts. Gospel godliness endures.

What holds a church together?

In this sermon, Pastor Taylor reflects on five years of ministry at Horicon Baptist Church and walks through Paul’s description of the church as the household of God, the church of the living God, and the pillar and buttress of the truth.

The church is called to hold the Gospel firm and hold it high, but the Gospel is also the foundation that creates, sustains, and preserves the church.

Pastors come and go. Members come and go. Generations change. But Christ remains. Our calling is not to chase numbers or make a name for ourselves, but to order God’s house according to God’s Word, confess the Gospel clearly, and remain faithful.

We were grateful to welcome Elder Ken Burl from Redeemer Reformed Presbyterian Church to preach God's Word this Sunday.

From 2 Corinthians 4:7–5:21, Ken reminded us that though we are weak and frail jars of clay, we carry the priceless treasure of the Gospel. Christians can endure suffering and hardship because our hope is not in this world, but in the resurrection and the eternal glory that awaits us in Christ.

Most importantly, we were urged to hear Paul's plea: through Christ's death and resurrection, sinners can be forgiven, made new creations, and reconciled to God.

"We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." (2 Corinthians 5:20)

The household of God does not only need faithful shepherds. It also needs faithful servants.

In 1 Timothy 3:8-14, Paul shows us that deacons must be tested, trustworthy servants whose lives display the gospel they confess. Deacons and deaconesses are not merely practical helpers; they are Christ-like servants who protect the peace of the church, strengthen the ministry of the Word, and reflect the humble service of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Why does Paul call the desire to be an overseer a “trustworthy saying”? Because pastors are entrusted with preaching and protecting the gospel: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”

In 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Paul shows us what kind of men should shepherd Christ’s church—men who desire the work, live as examples worth following, shepherd their homes well, are tested by time, and are respected by outsiders. This passage calls churches to pray for qualified pastors, pursue godliness together, and look ultimately to Jesus, the Chief Shepherd who never fails His people.
