Some people think fasting will bump their prayer up in line and get God’s attention faster. Fasting doesn’t win us God’s favor. He looks at us as being His children in good relationship with Him because of Jesus — not because of our good deeds or sacrifices. Fasting changes US not how He LOOKS at us.

Sometimes, we worry that God will send us something BAD because of what we asked for in haste or we won’t get something GOOD because we didn’t form our request the right way. God responds to every prayer with LOGIC + LOVE. He knows what will be best and what we need. He’s not a cosmic vending machine that we have to worry about spitting out the wrong thing because we hit the wrong button. He’s a living Person who understands more about what we ask for and need than even we do!

Sometimes we use prayer as an excuse to keep from doing something we don't want to do. Prayer should empower our action, not replace it. If someone needs a friend, don't pray for them to have one, be one!

The best spiritual indicator of your spiritual maturity is not your theological knowledge or your devoted service to the church. It’s your prayer life.

We’ve been told that prayer is making God do what we want. If we can get the wording right or the combination right, we can have access to the biggest genie in the universe.

That’s not the purpose of prayer. Prayer is not us wrestling God into giving us what we want, but us conforming to what Jesus would want. Prayer is encountering God and coming away wanting what he wants for our world and inviting God to use us to do it.

Miracles - Wait by Horizon Community Church

Sometimes we position ourselves to see miracles, and sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a storm we didn't expect. Jesus shows up in the dark places, in the deep places -- the places we need Him most!

If we want to experience a miracle it will require an investment. Some miracles cost us money, some cost us tears, but Jesus also has abundantly more than we ever give up.

Most people quit before they see a miracle. They faithful stick around until Jesus shows up and shows off.
