Hello you Mad Hadders!
We have got a great episode for you this week. We were joined for this episode by Annalisa Nicholson to talk about Hortense Mancini, an incredible 17th century aristocratic woman who fled her abusive husband and eventually ended up at the court of her one-time-suitor Charles II of England. For a short while she was the official mistress of Charles II but after having an affair with a number of other people, including Charles’s daughter by another mistress, he decided against it.
Hortense held salons, intellectual meetings, where people from all disciplines came together to discuss new ideas without fear of rank or sex getting in the ay of them being allowed to speak.
