This includes $931.7 million in direct awards to survivors for housing repairs, personal property replacement, and other recovery efforts. Additionally, over $1.18 billion in grants have been approved to support local and state governments for debris removal and emergency protective measures.
All of Florida’s power and cellphone service have been restored to pre-storm levels thanks to the coordinated efforts of the federal family, state, tribal, and local partners, along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Energy. FEMA has 19 Disaster Recovery Centers open in Florida where survivors can receive in-person help, and 460 Disaster Survivor Assistance team members are engaging with survivors in affected neighborhoods.
FEMA has also provided significant support through the National Flood Insurance Program, with over 72,000 policyholders in Florida filing claims and receiving approximately $894 million to repair properties and replace contents.
Survivors can apply for FEMA assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App, or by calling the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-3362. Republican U.S. Sen. Rick Scott has been re-elected to his U.S. Senate seat in Florida, defeating Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. Scott, a former Florida governor, won his fourth statewide election with a significant margin, more than 12 percentage points over Mucarsel-Powell. This victory was aided by Florida's massive Republican voter registration advantage, with Republicans now holding a million-voter lead over Democrats in the state.
Scott, one of the richest members of Congress, invested heavily in his campaign, spending at least $24.5 million of his own money. He focused his campaign on economic issues and rising household prices during President Joe Biden’s administration. Scott also supported former President Donald Trump on the campaign trail and is now positioning himself for a potential Senate leadership role.
Mucarsel-Powell, a former congresswoman from Miami and the first Ecuadorian American and South American-born congressional member, struggled to gain traction despite her efforts to highlight issues such as rising housing costs, abortion rights, and preserving Social Security and Medicare. She received little financial support from national Democrats until the final weeks of the campaign.
The election outcome reflects the increasing dominance of the Republican Party in Florida, with all 26 U.S. House incumbents from the state retaining their seats and Republicans maintaining a 20-8 advantage over Democrats in the state delegation.

The Baltimore Ravens are in the spotlight following their recent 35-34 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football. Despite their victory, which improved their record to 7-3, the team's defensive performance remains a significant concern. The Ravens' defense has been criticized for its poor performance throughout the season, with many noting it as one of the worst defensive units in the league. The defense has struggled to contain opponents, even in games where the Ravens have won, often relying on the team's potent offense led by Lamar Jackson to secure victories[3][5].
In the latest game, Lamar Jackson led a remarkable comeback, throwing three fourth-quarter touchdown passes and guiding the Ravens to overcome a 21-7 third-quarter deficit. The game ended with the Ravens stopping a Bengals 2-point conversion attempt with 38 seconds remaining. Despite this win, the defense allowed substantial yardage, particularly in zone coverage schemes, which have been ineffective. There is a growing call for the defense to switch to more man coverage, as it has shown better results against opponents[3][5].
The Ravens also suffered an injury to All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton, who left the game with an ankle injury late in the first half. The team's defensive coordinator, Zach Orr, is under scrutiny for the unit's performance, with some suggesting that the team's defensive strategy needs a significant overhaul[3][5].

The Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens engaged in a thrilling matchup on Thursday Night Football, with the Ravens emerging victorious by a narrow margin of 35-34. The game was marked by several critical moments, including the Bengals' decision to go for a two-point conversion at the end, which was thwarted by the Ravens' defense. Despite the loss, Bengals' quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase had standout performances, with Chase causing significant trouble for the Ravens' secondary. The Ravens' defense, particularly after the injury to safety Kyle Hamilton, struggled with communication issues and allowing open passes in the middle of the field. However, the front line of the Ravens' defense showed improvement, with Nnamdi Madubuike having a notable game with three sacks. The Ravens' offense, led by Lamar Jackson, was strong enough to counter the Bengals' high-scoring efforts, despite some early coaching blunders and special teams mishaps.
The game highlighted ongoing issues with the Ravens' defense, especially against high-tier quarterbacks and receivers, which raises concerns about their playoff potential. For the Bengals, the loss adds to their struggles to find a finishing touch and save their season.

Senator John Thune of South Dakota is a key candidate in the race to succeed Mitch McConnell as the leader of the Senate Republicans. Following Donald Trump's presidential win, Thune, along with Senator John Cornyn of Texas and Senator Rick Scott of Florida, is vying for this influential position. Thune and Cornyn, both longtime deputies of McConnell, have been working to mend their relationships with Trump, given their past criticisms and differences. Thune had criticized Trump's actions around the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and had previously urged Trump to withdraw from the 2016 presidential race after the 'Access Hollywood' tape surfaced. Despite these past tensions, Thune has met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and has communicated with him multiple times throughout the year.
Thune has raised significant funds for GOP candidates, including $31 million in this election cycle, and has been active in supporting various Senate campaigns. He has suggested that Trump should refrain from publicly intervening in the leadership race, believing it would be best for the process to remain internal to the Senate.
The leadership election is set to take place next week, with Senator Mike Lee hosting a forum featuring the candidates on Tuesday, followed by the election on Wednesday. The outcome will depend on secret ballots, with the candidate achieving a simple majority winning the position.
