Captivating story
Hotel Girls was not only a good read it was an education. Having grown up in southern California it was fascinating to learn just how different my world was compared to growing up in South Africa, while at the same time the journey of growing into a young woman appears not to be so different. The story reaffirmed what we all know; whatever nationality you are, wherever you are living; growing pains, longing to fit it, to be happy and fulfilled, to be loved, are all universal desires and part of the human experienceâand in Hotel Girls our heroine moves through her mistakes with humor and honesty. An entertaining read with twists and turns that reminded me Iâm happy Iâm no longer in my teens & twenties.
An Enjoyable Read!
It is rare that I enjoy books with sexual content and romance, but sometimes I must make an exception. This book was excellent. It was difficult for me to believe it was fictional, it felt so real. I have lived in South Africa, and the setting and characters are so true to life. The protagonist, Sandra Robertson, comes to live in Durban after the tragic death of her family in the Rhodesian bush war. She finds a job at the Leopard Lair Hotel, and the fun begins. A diverse cast of characters, starting with the Frog Prince, had me in stitches. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
A fascinating journey from childhood to adulthood, set in South Africa
A fascinating journey from a tragic childhood, tracing the heroine's struggle to find her own identity as a woman. After several unsuccessful relationships she eventually finds happiness in a fulfilling relationship. The majority of the book is set in and around Durban, and the author has a fine eye for detail, showing an intimate knowledge of South Africa, its landscapes and its people. Scenes which, in other hands, might have been tawdry, were handled with a surprising sensitivity, each one contributing to the heroine's growth and self-knowledge.
Fun book to read
Hotel Girls
I enjoyed reading this book as it reminded me of places I knew. The author is a personal friend and even though the book is fictional the story line was reminiscent of a past life.
Nice
Very predictable, but I enjoyed reading about what goes on in the hotel world and I really enjoyed exploring Africa.
