For two years, my hip hurt and nothing helped. I saw orthopedic surgeons and pain doctors, I had the X-rays and the MRIs, I did the physical therapy, and I barely moved the needle. Then I went outside my insurance to Stephania Humphrey, and within a couple of gentle sessions I felt dramatically better. Years later, it has held.
In this episode of Hotness, I finally got to ask her how she does it. Stephania is a European-trained manual osteopath, which means she works almost entirely through her hands, feeling for where the body is holding on and gently helping it let go. No cracking, no force. Her big idea is one I see in my own patients every day: stress doesn't stay in your head, it gets lodged in the body. She calls the state so many of us live in "tired and wired," a nervous system stuck on high alert that never quite gets to stand down.
We also get into menopause, and this is where I got a little emotional. Too many women arrive in her office frightened, gripping tight to the idea that midlife is all downhill. Stephania sees it differently, and so do I. With the right support, for the body and the hormones both, this can be the season a woman finally shines. Her work and mine are two halves of the same picture, and this conversation is a lovely look at what happens when you stop treating the symptom and start listening to the whole person.

About the Guest:
Stephania Humphrey, MOstMed, DOMP, is a manual osteopath with 16 years of hands-on practice and the founder of B-Well Collective in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in Belgium and raised in London, she trained in the European tradition of osteopathy, where the medicine is done almost entirely through the hands: no prescriptions, no primary care, just a finely tuned sense of how a body is moving and where it's stuck.
Her work centers on root-cause pain, the nervous system, and the stress we quietly carry, especially in women moving through midlife and menopause. At B-Well Collective, she's built a small village around each patient, fellow osteopaths, strength and mobility coaches, and collaborating psychologists and body-based therapists, so the mind and the body get cared for together.
