During the initial stages of the war, there was some talk among Kriegsmarine admirals to send a flotilla of U-boats to the Indian Ocean. Although it would be an addition to have manpower there and disrupt Allied supply lines, nobody considered it a feasible mission. They sent several dozen submarines to the Indian and Pacific Ocean, to meet their allies, the Japanese. It was the only time during the entire war the Germans and Japanese intensively collaborated.
