  • 139. This Might Be The Worst-Designed Room in ‘Battle on the Beach’ History. Plus, Noteworthy Homes on TV

Hi friends! On this week's episode of "House Party," Natalie lets everyone in on the Netflix press junket she attended where she interviewed the reality TV stars of "Selling the OC," "Dream Home Makeover," and more.
Then, Rachel and Natalie realize they're both currently watching TV shows with remarkable real estate.
And the "Battle on the Beach" recaps continue on with a rundown of this week's episode in which the teams of rookie designers and HGTV mentors renovate the kid's room. Mid-way through construction, the teams are forced to put down their tools and compete in a puzzle challenge. When it comes to final judging, all the teams struggle with safety issues in their rooms, and one team churns out what might very well be the worst-designed room we've ever seen on "Battle on the Beach." Period.

  • 138. Food Delivery Fails, 'Battle on the Beach' Episode 3, 'Yassified' Songs on HGTV

If you could design the living room in your ultimate beach house, what would it look like? That's the question the teams on "Battle on the Beach" had to ponder this week. Of course, being a part of this design competition means they have to stick to a strict budget and a limited timeline, but that doesn't mean they could slack off on putting unique, creative touches on their spaces. To impress the judges and take home the top prize this week, the teams had to add an architectural detail and antique nautical decor to their living rooms. Which team reigned supreme? We break it all down on this week’s episode of “House Party.”

And, after a brief hiatus, Winners and Losers is back! In this segment, we take a look at what celebrities have been up to in the world of real estate. We crown one winner who made some cash on a recent home sale and one loser who wasn't so lucky.

  • 137. Alison Victoria's Questionable Design Decision on 'Battle on the Beach'. Plus, Boomer Decor Stereotypes

We're back and continuing with our recap of season two of "Battle on the Beach," the shoreside design competition where  HGTV stars and novice house flipping teams renovate old beach houses. The team who adds the most value back into the property wins the ultimate prize of $50,000.
This week, the teams are tasked with overhauling the main suite in their home. While everyone is concerned with making their spaces luxurious and stylish, one team takes their creativity a little too far and makes a questionable design decision.
Press play and hear us break it all down on this week's episode of "House Party."

  • 136. Ty Pennington Reveals One Design Choice That Makes Him Want to Cry; Plus, a Peek at Tom Cruise's Real Estate

Summer is closer than ever, and on HGTV that means a return to the shore for another season of "Battle on the Beach." We thoroughly enjoyed the first season of this home renovation competition show, and we weren't alone. Last year, it was watched by more than 13 million viewers. So you can only imagine how excited we were to meet three new teams of competitors and see them flip three identical beach houses with the help of their HGTV mentors Ty Pennington, Taniya Nayak, and Alison Victoria.

This week, the teams tackled the kitchen and dining areas in their respective beach houses. One team's design reigned supreme, but the episode featured plenty of twists and turns that we couldn't wait to discuss. Want to hear our hot takes? Press play on this new episode of "House Party."

And, in the wake of "Top Gun: Maverick" being the hottest movie of the summer, we welcome Realtor.com celebrity real estate writer Claudine Zap back on the podcast to discuss Tom Cruise’s real estate portfolio.

  • 135. Is It Time to Put Modern Farmhouse Style Out to Pasture? (w/ Katie Holdefehr from Real Simple)

This week, Real Simple senior editor Katie Holdefehr joins us to deep dive on one of the most pervasive home design trends ever, modern farmhouse. It's currently a contentious topic—some people love it, some people hate it—and we're here to break it all down and ask the ultimate question:  Is modern farmhouse past its prime?
In our conversation we discuss why modern farmhouse became so popular, the most egregious modern farmhouse furnishings (we're looking at you, mason jars...), and how it's evolved over the last decade.
We also cover Christina Hall's new ultra-modern Newport Beach mansion, and we crown this week's celebrity real estate winners.

  • 134. What Happened to 'The Staircase' House? Plus, Erin Napier's Stranger Danger

On the heels of the new HBO drama series "The Staircase", we dive into the status of the Peterson house in Durham, NC, where Kathleen Peterson died. Who owns it? Does it still look the way it did in 2001 when the crime occurred?
Plus, we discuss Erin Napier's terrifying ordeal with a stranger who came to Laurel, MS, in search of her family. And, we crown this week's celebrity real estate winner.

  • Lil Jon's New HGTV Show. Plus, a Real Estate Scam You Probably Haven't Heard Of

From "The Tinder Swindler" to the Elizabeth Holmes saga, our fascination with scammers knows no bounds. So, you can imagine how intrigued we were to learn about the brother-sister team who conned homebuyers out of $6 million in down payments. On a new episode of "House Party," we discuss this case and try to figure out how on earth the accused parties pulled it off.

We also wrap up our thoughts on "Selling Sunset" season five, give our brutally honest thoughts on the newest HGTV show "Lil Jon Wants to Do What?", and crown this week's real estate winner.

  • 132. 'Selling Sunset' Season 5: The Real Estate Wars Continue; Plus, a Grammy-Winning Duo Takes a Loss

"Selling Sunset"—the Netflix reality TV show that focuses on luxury homes in Los Angeles and the relationships between the agents who sell them—is about 10% real estate and 90% drama. Some people wish the beautiful properties were highlighted more, but frankly, it's just not that kind of show. You might come to "Selling Sunset" for an up-close look at eight-figure mansions, but you stay for the not-so-controlled chaos that plays out among the agents on the show

After tearing through Season 5, which started streaming a week ago, we were fascinated by how the agents of The Oppenheim Group handle bidding wars, deal with difficult clients, and negotiate closing cost credits.

On this episode of "House Party," we dig into all the drama of the latest season. We also discuss the return of "Windy City Rehab" and Alison Victoria's season of "hell." And we crown this week's celebrity real estate winner and losers.

  • 130. 'Rock the Block' Showrunner Shares Season 3 Secrets, Plus the HGTV Stars You'll Probably Never See on the Show

Frequent "House Party" listeners know that we love to nerd out on HGTV shows. So you can only imagine how excited we were to talk to Patrick Byrnes, the showrunner and executive producer of "Rock the Block." Byrnes has been helming the show for the past two seasons, so he has plenty of first-hand knowledge about casting the show and all the hard work that actually goes in to creating a design competition.
