Allison Rosen is the lead project coordinator for Baylor College of Medicine in the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and Dr. Milena Gould-Suarez is an Associate professor at the Baylor college of medicine in gastro ontology. Allison is a colon cancer survivor and she shares her story to inspire young people to get a colonoscopy starting at age 45. Early detection is key and Dr. Gould-Suarez explains what some of the known causes of colon cancer are (processed meat is on the list) and how moderation and good dietary habits can make a healthy life.
The 2019 Get Your Rear in Gear is on Saturday, November 16 at the Baylor College of Medicine (McNair Campus). There's a dog costume contest and the poop emoji will be there for your kids to take pictures with (yep, it's a thing and the kids love it). Dr. Aisha Siddiqui is the Founder of CHAT - Culture of Health - Advancing Together. She has a PhD in Management policy and community health practice and founded CHAT in the Gulfton area of Houston to help refugees and immigrants become American citizens. Last year, they inaugurated the beautiful Gulfton Story Trail to showcase and inspire the community's pride in our multicultural city. Ellen Elam is a Komen Houston Board member and Khambrel Marshall is a member of the KPRC2 Severe Weather Team. They are also this year’s race co-chairs. The 2019 Komen Houston Race for the Cure against breast cancer is on Saturday, October 5 and 75% of funds raised will stay in the Greater Houston area to fund breast health screenings and support groups for people going through treatment. The rest is sent to Komen's national office to fund research all over the US and since Houston is on the forefront of the subject, much of those grant dollars come back to Houston's medical community which is one of the best in the world. Mariam Khalili is the Managing Director of Houston Chamber Choir and Robert Simpson is their founder and artistic director. Their new season kicks off with "Annelies: The Diary of Anne Frank."
The performance will christen the new theatre at the Holocaust Museum Houston. The choir was also invited to the World Symposium on Choral Music in New Zealand, a great a rare honor. It's "the Olympics" of choral music. They are also offering Master classes to schools and their free show at the Miller Outdoor Theatre: "Jukebox Saturday Night" pays tribute to the carefree days of Rock ’n Roll. There will be dancing on stage and on the lawn!

Tena Lundquist Faust and Tama Lundquist are co-presidents of Houston Petset. They advocate for animals and their right to be treated with respect, from supporting reasonable legislation which would require people to give their animals proper shelter (currently a chain and tree qualifies as shelter for a dog) to reasonable spay and neuter programs and educating the public about animal overpopulation and the misery it causes. Because it's a human problem. The city of Houston spends hundreds of millions of dollars answering calls about stray animals. Most of the animals they trap are then euthanized because there aren't enough people willing to adopt them. But this is not true in the northern states and we discuss Houston Petset's red bus of hope in which animals are bussed up north and adopted out to thankful families.

Retired Lieutenant General Doug Owens is the CEO of the Lone Star Flight Museum and with him is Marshall Calderon, one of their Junior Ambassadors. He is 12 years old, has a passion for aviation and rocketry and he plans on getting his flying license before his driving license, just like one of his heroes: Neil Armstrong. He's an impressive young man passionate about technology and science and the Lone Star Flight museum is actively recruiting Junior Ambassadors like him, ages 13 to 17. They assist in running the Aviation Learning Center, the Flight Simulators, they lead activities for children, help with special events and assist in classes and camps. And since they're on Elington Field, Houstonians can not only see these old warbirds up close, they can fly in them (you did not misread!).

Tamara Kasper (aka TK) is the owner of Six 13 Shop. She is a licensed mechanic and philanthropist and also our colleague here at iHeart Media. After Harvey, TK decided she wanted to contribute to the recovery by helping people fix their cars. She identifies people who really need the help and then she does a little fundraising to help pay for parts. She volunteers her work 100%.
She is also welcoming groups of girls in her shop to teach them basics of car care. The idea is not only to expose girls to a professional field they're rarely encouraged to look at, it's also to give them some useful tools to take care of common car problems.
