Bay Current

How can we make biking in the Bay Area less intimidating?

Listen Later

In March, San Francisco Mayor London Breed traded her Clipper Card for her passport, and boarded a plane to Europe. Besides being on a mission to lure tourists back to the city, she also took a bike tour through Paris, which aims to be 100% "cyclable" by 2026.

What can Mayor Breed learn from Paris’ pandemic-era bike lane initiatives? And what makes biking in the Bay Area so intimidating?

Producers Mallory Somera and Sydney Fishman spoke with Marcel Moran, an urban planning PhD candidate from UC Berkeley who researched Paris’ bike network, and Emeryville Mayor John Bauters, a biking enthusiast who’s making it his mission to make commuting by bike less dangerous in the East Bay.
