How Do We Know The People Who Translated The Bible Got it Right?

Listen Later

How do we know the word of God was translated accurately?
God is faithful and cannot lie – Titus 1:2….. Deut 7:9 – If God doesn’t preserve his words, how can his people keep his commandments? The word of God is tied to his promises Deut 12:28, 2Sam 7:25, Psalm 105:8-12, Jer 31:31-36, 33:20-21. – The promise of resurrection is based on Christ resurrection which is “according to the scriptures” 1Cor 15:4 (cf Psalms 110:1, Isaiah 53:10, Jonah 1:17, Matt 12:39-40, Mark 8:31, John 2:19, Luke 24:44-46) 1Cor 15:8, 16-18.
So, it should be clear that God promised to preserve his word, but how do we know the translators translated it correctly? Some say that God preserved his word in the original languages……. We believe we can have them preserved perfectly in our language by faith – God created languages - Gen 11:1-9,
God translates for us showing that it can be done - Ex 4:10-16,5:2, Mark 15:34, Luke 23:38, Acts 22:1-2, 26:14.
English Spanish French greek
Give example – Jesus wept – Jesus lloro, Jesus pleurer, iesous dakryo
Utilization is a doctrine, it is pointless to preserve something if it cannot be used – God promised to preserve his word so that we can use it and obey it – 2Tim 3:16-17, 1Thess 2:13, Eph 3:3-4, Col 4:16, 1Thess 5:27, Rev 1:1-3, Deut 17:18-20, Deut 27:26. Very few, if any, know how to read Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek today. So how can we utilize the words of God if we “can’t” understand them?
God says to study his word be a faithful workman – 2Tim 2:15, If we don’t have access to the words of God today, or if we can’t understand them because they are in a old language, then how can we accurately utilize them? And how can God judge us for our service when our service is according to the word of God – 2Tim 3:16-17.
A deeper meaning in Greek? Phileo & Agape? – John 21:15-17…… “Third time”?
God values his words……. Deut 9:10, 12:32, Prov 30:5-6, Rev 22:18-19.
If my bible has more words than yours, more verses than yours, different words in different passages, are they the same? If not, then the one that has been utilized/preserved through history would be the correct word of God.

Missing verses in modern translations – Matt 17:21, 18:11, 23:14. Mark 7:16, 9:44,46, 11:26, 15:28. Luke 17:36. John 5:3-4. Acts 8:37, 15:34, 24:6-8, 28:29. Romans 16:24. 1John 5:7-8.
An argument for the “oldest manuscripts” doesn’t really work – 2Cor 2:17, 4:2,
His Word has been fulfilled (Col 1:25, 2Tim 2:7) will you believe it so that it can work in you 1Thess 2:13? Will you study it, and rightly divide it, so that you can be a workman approved unto God 2Tim 2:15?
