How FCA Created a Highly Engaged Community Of Learners - Learning Clan [ EP 6 ]
In this episode, Chris Hutchinson, our Head Of Learning Design sat down with Ville Wacklin - Head of Creative Industries Program and Peter Njuguna - an IT specialist, teacher, and Lead trainer for Kenya from Finn Church Aid. Finn Church Aid (FCA) is one of Finland’s oldest and well recognized philanthropic organizations, centered on the belief in everyone’s right to peace, quality education, and sustainable livelihoods. Working with the most vulnerable people, regardless of their religious beliefs, ethnic background or political convictions across 12 nations.
With the ever-expanding reach of technology and connectivity touching even remote locations, FCA decided it was time to bring some of their education and training programs to the digital space in an effort to reach and support more individuals.
Using Claned and Claned’s learning design centred approach to online learning, they created a variety of programs designed to up skill local professionals in creative industries such as graphic design and social media marketing.
The programs represent the first move into providing “soft-skills” training focusing on the importance of communication, negotiation, time-management, and self-leadership, as a means to compliment existing knowledge bases and open up new markets and opportunities for participants.
Being the first of its kind (both digital and soft-skills) there were several unknowns and new challenges that at first might have been intimidating, but by sticking to their vision, and working with our experts they managed to achieve and even surpass their goals.
We discussed their implementation strategy, and how they were able to create a highly engaged and motivated community of learners, what makes programs such as this so important and the impact they have.
Social learning, blended classrooms, teamwork and collaboration especially when it comes to implementing programs in larger organizations with many moving parts form the core of our discussion as well as a few forays into their backgrounds and experiences.
