Let's talk about FOMO – the Fear Of Missing Out.
None of us are immune to FOMO; you know that feeling, scrolling through social media and seeing a friend at an event, concert or party that you didn't attend, but wished you had.
But did you know that marketers and entrepreneurs are using these unethical fear-based tactics to target and sell to vulnerable audiences using your fear of missing out, self-worth and impulse buying as their go-to strategy?
In marketing, FOMO is used to give you the feeling that you're missing out on something great that you need in order to feel fulfilled, to belong or to experience something better. Marketers use FOMO to sell stuff to you that you might not need or want.
In today's episode, we look at both sides. As a marketer, I share with you a few pointers on how you can do this better in your own marketing and avoid these kinds of slimy tactics, how your language and messaging matters, and how marketing on FOMO can really damage your brand and the way you make people feel.
And as a buyer, you'll have a behind the scenes look into how products, courses, and programs are being sold to you so that you can start making your own empowered decisions.
