FEATURING ANNIE STAMELL - It’s been more than 3 weeks since Hollywood writers went on strike. Contract negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) broke down at the beginning of May. At stake are streaming residuals that writers rely on for financial sustenance, among other things.
A flashpoint in the strike was a commencement speech at Boston University given over the weekend by David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Brothers Discovery, who received an honorary doctorate. Graduating students and picketing writers booed Zaslav throughout his speech demanding that he pay writers more.
