Intelligent Intoxication

How Shoulds Dilute Your Joy

Listen Later

These are the 6 habits that will dilute your joy:

  • “busy” work
  • obligations
  • shoulds
  • seeking more
  • balancing your time and energy
  • a one-size-fits-all approach
  • When we don’t do what we tell ourselves that we “should” do, we topple into shame. When we shame ourselves, we call ourselves names based on “black and white” labels like “good” or “bad”. Shoulds will also dilute your integrity.

I invite you to consider these questions:

    • What SHOULDS fuel your behavior?
  • When do you notice feeling shame when you don’t measure up to your SHOULDS?
  • What are you telling yourself that you SHOULD do or be?
  • What are you telling yourself that you SHOULDN’T do or be?
  • How willing are you to substitute COULD or MUST for SHOULD?
  • How might you complete this prompt:
  • “If I’m not doing what I SHOULD, he/she will think, feel, or say THIS about me.”

  • If you have something you’d really love to hear on the podcast, I would be giddy and grateful to hear all about it:
