In this week’s episode, Lana is joined by someone whose passion is so contagious that she channeled her passion towards helping others find theirs. Shilbee Dhalla-Kim is a passion coach for entrepreneurs, community builders, and change makers. She supports leaders in clarifying their passions, leadership approaches and business models. You can explore her work and the amazing projects she’s done at www.shilbee.com
Shilbee gives us deeper insight into her journey to becoming a passion coach and beyond. As an Asian immigrant to Canada, we talk about the hate and discrimination her family faced, how the frustration and anger she felt was channeled into a passion project in university, and despite not knowing what career she wanted to pursue and years of circling back and forth between a variety of different positions, she found her passion in coaching others to find theirs. However, deciding to step out of the ordinary path is not as easy as it sounds. With the label of being a passion coach comes buckets of reactions, financial dilemmas and fears. Did Shilbee ever overcome those obstacles? If she did, how did she overcome them?
In addition to Shilbee’s journey, she shares concrete advice on the importance of community (who may or may not be a part of it), being honest with oneself, and the concept of Ikigai, which is a Japanese framework that helps people identify their reason of being (one that Shilbee uses during her coaching sessions).
