Thapelo is a South African entrepreneur who is passionate about Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In 2018, Thapelo and his team started their company Botlhale AI and immediately began working on their first product Naledi.
Naledi is a multilingual personal banking chat box that allows users to perform banking transactions in their native languages. After two years of hardwork and dedication, the team was announced as the grand winner of the season 3 Data Hack Africa Start Up Competition out of 30 teams from 7 different countries across the african continent. This saw the team successfully join the Nvidia inception program, which is a program designed to nurture cutting-edge AI startups who are revolutionizing industries.
Thapelo is currently enrolled at the university of Capetown (UCT) where he’s doing his masters in electrical engineering and research on human language technology.
In this episode, Thapelo walks us through the lessons, challenges and highlights of his entrepreneurial journey thus far. Furthermore he talks to us about the importance of artificial intelligence and machine learning in such a rapidly evolving global society.
