I have always been an entrepreneur. Ever since I graduated university I have been self employed, and no, I’m not a big risk taker. I’m actually very risk averse, and being self employed seemed to be a very safe option for me as long as I planned ahead, and looked at how to mitigate risk as an entrepreneur. One of the best things I ever did to create job security and income security as an entrepreneur, create a fully funded emergency fund that would cover 1 year’s worth of living expenses if I couldn’t work, or needed to change or pivot my business. Having a large emergency fund bought me time and freedom, two things that a young entrepreneur values highly!
