In this episode, I am talking about a nobleman from Michalovce who was a real-life knight in the Zemplin area in medieval times. According to Slovak historians, he was a very brave knight and a really significant person from my hometown.
Today, I am going to talk about him in my fun fact as well as in my legend. In the Slovak lessons, I’ll discuss the genders of Slovak nouns. You will also learn the numbers from 1 to 10, plus how to ask about a person’s age.
Slovak lesson
Slovak nouns have three grammatical genders: masculine, feminine and neuter.
Masculine nouns usually end in a consonant.
Feminine nouns usually end on –a.
Neuter nouns usually end on –o or -e.
Masculine nouns: Feminine nouns: Neuter nouns:
muž – man žena – woman auto - car
otec – father matka – mother mesto – town, city
syn – son dcéra – daughter okno - window
doktor – doctor (male) doktorka – doctor (female) pero - pen
dom – house kniha – book kino – movie theater
strom – tree dedina - village vajce - egg
pes – dog mačka – cat (female) srdce - heart
