Slovak lesson
1. isté bývanie (certain housing)
2. isté zamestnanie (certain employment)
3. pravidelný plat (regular salary)
4. plná zamestnanosť (full employment)
5. sociálna istota (social security)
6. ružový svet (pink world)
7. vedenie štátu (state leadership)
8. pevná / prísna kontrola (strong / strict control)
9. lacné byty (cheap apartments)
10. pridelenie bytu (apartment allocation)
11. podpultový tovar (under-the-counter goods)
12. temnejšia stránka (the darker side)
13. dobre zásobené (well stocked)
14. čierny trh (black market)
15. Ako to vlastne bolo? (How was it actually?)
Sentences:
1. Niektorí ľudia hovoria, že za socializmu bolo všetko isté. (Some people say that under socialism everything was certain.)
2. Pýtate sa, čo všetko bolo isté? (What was certain, you ask?)
3. Isté bolo bývanie, zamestnanie a pravidelný plat. (Housing, employment and a regular salary were certain.)
4. Ale, ako to vlastne bolo? (But, how was it actually?)
5. Tu je moja odpoveď. (Here is my answer.)
6. Za socializmu sme mali plnú zamestnanosť a sociálne istoty. (Under socialism, we had full employment and social security.)
7. Každý mal svoju prácu a pravidelne dostával plat. (Everyone had a job and received a salary regularly.)
8. Ľudia mali lacné byty, ale museli na ne dlho čakať. (People had cheap apartments, but they had to wait a long time for them.)
9. Obchody neboli vždy dobre zásobené. (Stores were not always well stocked.)
10. Ľudia nemohli slobodne vyjadrovať svoje myšlienky a názory. (People could not freely express their thoughts and opinions.)
11. Vedenie štátu malo pevnú kontrolu nad všetkými médiami. (The state leadership had firm control over all media.)
12. Teraz Slováci žijú v slobodnej a demokratickej krajine. (Now Slovaks live in a free and democratic country.)
13. Som rada, že socializmus konečne padol. (I am glad that socialism has finally fallen.)
