Social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube claim that they can censor any content they don’t like because they are private companies and they can do what they want. They claim that the first amendment does not apply to them for that reason, and it's all because of a provision in Federal Law called the "internet Good Samaritan" law found at 47 US Code sec 230 (c)(2).
