Publisher's Summary:
The Magic Table is a collection of poetry, satire, and short stories reflecting on what is talked about, laughed about, and felt in a society of elders. Having moved into a retirement community at age 84, the author discovers beauty, friendship, humor, memories, and newfound pursuits to celebrate in later life. Insightful, a must hear for boomers beginning to contemplate their third act. Recommended for anyone who is or loves someone in their sixties, seventies, eighties, and beyond. Indie Review notes: "The Magic Table includes insight, wisdom, humor, and deep feeling in...a sequence of short, lively, and very readable poems and prose pieces...he has the poets ability to take a small, and seemingly everyday thing, like two old men conversing while feeding a squirrel, or an attack of the common cold, and find in it deep meaning, or else bright amusement." This book is touching and funny.

) Reading âThe Magic Tableâ is like making a visit to a favorite family member who ...
So many people write about aging, but here is a book written about aging by someone who is actually aging. Set in an assisted living facility, âThe Magic Tableâ is inspired by the conversations of a group of people who have led remarkable lives and who meet regularly around a breakfast table. It celebrates life stories in poems and prose, and provides vivid observations on the small day-to-day things that provide a spark in their collective lives. Petrocelli, a former chemist and educator, has led a remarkable life himself. (His memoir, âA Peddlers Sonâs Travel Through the Twentieth Centuryâ is very engaging.) Reading âThe Magic Tableâ is like making a visit to a favorite family member who just loves life. You can almost see the sparkle in his eyes as he relates his tales in thoughtful, funny, honest ways. The book is informed by his playful intelligence, his modesty, and above all his generosity of spirit. It provides a unique window on a world most of us only see small pieces of.
The Magic of the Magic Table
The author is a personal friend of mine, I visit him often at Stoneridge and meeting all the members of the magic table is pure magic.
This coming Sunday we will have a whole group of them coming to Newport, RI for a book signing and the room will be packed.
Very exciting, so yes the book met my expectations and more!

A Must Read for Those Seeking Wisdom About Living the Good Life After 60!
How apropos that a wise and witty scholar like Dr. Petrocelli shares his poetic reflections on life in a community of elders! The stories and poems are inspiring for all -- especially for those of us who, as Baby Boomers, are on the cusp of our own transitions. His stories let us know that the life of the mind continues even as the body gets fatigued. His humor and insight are remarkable. This is a really wonderful book!!
Highly recommend. A delightful read.
A delight to read. Touching and funny. Insightful reflections from decades of experiences from Dr. Petrocelli - a self described "Very Sinior Citizen" - insights and thoughts that are very relevant to today's world.
