Critic Reviews:
"Diamands plotting is adept, and she excels at the perennial comedy of showing how childish and selfish adults can be compared with children" (The Times)

A well-written, engrossing tale about two teenagers, Isis and Gray.
"Ways to See A Ghost" by Emily Diamand is a well-written, engrossing tale about two teenagers, Isis and Gray. Unlike many YA novels, the characters here are very believable, especially Isis Dunbar who portrays all the traits of a teenage girl in her topsy-turvy relationship with her mother, Calista. In turn, Cally's burgeoning relationship with Gray's father, Gil, adds to the tension between mother and daughter. Without presenting you with unintended spoilers, the novel is about ghosts whom Isis alone can see and communicate with. The ghosts implore Isis to act for them against the novel's antagonist - who shall remain nameless here.
Additionally, Ms Diamand successfully employs the double first-person technique in her story-telling by labelling each chapter heading with one of the two protagonists names who then take up the story. However, there is one other very interesting thing about the novel - the chapter endings. Short paragraphs have been added that are obviously not linked to the preceding chapter but tantalisingly feed you with enigmatic information that is only explained and resolved in the final chapter.
Highly recommended.
A fantastic futuristic teen thriller with elements of sci-fi and paranormal
Expectations were high when I herd about award-winning author of the highly acclaimed children's novel the Flood Child, and so I was pleasantly surprised upon encountering this ghostly tale. Filled with fast-paced action, thrilling drama and nail-biting tension I was glued to the pages completely absorbed in this wonderful story. The target readership I would say is for 11 year olds plus, and I did feel that the writing style was suited to the younger reader or teenager.
Character-driven and full of thought-provoking poignancy, it is hard not to connect with the characters and feel very much a part of their journey. I was presented with murders, mayhem and mystery that was truly explosive as well as the odd ancient evil and UFO hunter. Filled with strange and often horrific events, I found that as I delved deeper into the book that the scary nature of the story intensified. Totally original and imaginative this is the perfect book for budding Ghostbusters and fans of the unexplained (i.e a Doctor Who adventurer!).
"I looked through the window into their living room, but there was only Sondra, his girlfriend. Not like that sounds, because she's really old, as old as him........She was as weird as him...."
- Quote.
I would highly recommend this book to younger readers who enjoy action/ adventure stories filled with paranormal elements, and perhaps not to the older reader simply because of the style of writing. `Ways to see a Ghost' tells the story of Isis Dunbar who has psychic powers which can save ghosts from a terrible fate.
