Narrator issues

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have just finished listening to "For A Fathers Pride" by the same author & loved it, so purchased this follow on book. I couldn't make out why the one other reviewer left a one star rating as Diane Allen is an excellent story teller. However now I'm listening to this I think I know why!

Tobias who we met in the previous book is born & bred in Yorkshire, so are his parents, & in the previous book they all spoke with a Yorkshire accent. In this novel he speaks posh! While all those around him continue to speak with a Yorkshire accent. The voice is driving me nuts & I can no longer listen to it.

The narrator has obviously not read the previous novel, & just because someone is Lord of the manner doesn't mean they speak with a plum in their mouth. The previous Lord of the manner didn't !

I'm unfortunately returning this, & going the read the novel on kindle instead as this I'm sure a great novel.

The husband slept wth his ex girlfriend during the time when the husband and wife were separated.. they get back together and find out they r pregnant... In the meantime the ex is also pregnant... wife looses baby ... ex gives birth.. husband clearly loves wife.. ex wants the husband... not sure if the ex was done coming between the wife and husband especially now that the baby is here... to many loose ends..can't recommend..

Good read

I enjoyed this book having seen it recommended as a summer read. It keeps you guessing almost all the way through, I did work out the end before I got there, but only just, and it didnt spoil it for me at all. I found I had to keep reading, couldn't put it down, half a day sitting in the sun with a good book - my idea of heaven.

A truly wonderful ending

This is a story set over two generation bringing to you both a Mother and daughters world as you turn into each new chapter. How can love be so painful to live without?

I couldn't quite decide when I started the book is Fliss was a selfish, self-centred woman only looking out for her own happiness or if there was more to her character, of course, I won't be telling what I decided. You have to read the book to find out for yourself! There are some great characters in this book and some that will definitely surprise you, sister Maggie and Mike stood out for me.

Brilliantly written with lots of emotion and with twists and some very unexpected turns that really make you gasp. A wonderful but tragic love story that will hold your attention from the very first pages right up to the the truly wonderful ending.

What a tangled web we weave..........

Once I got the characters untangled, this book held me from beginning to end. It comforted me during a week of down-in-bed illness; a few pages at a time. How Ms. Carr kept it all straight is beyond me, but she very cleverly draws you in and keeps you hanging right to the end. And, somehow she pulls it all together and you don't even see it coming. There are a lot of ironic twists that leave you wondering if this really could have happened. In the end, I decided that it really could have. Good job.
