Narrator issues

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have just finished listening to "For A Fathers Pride" by the same author & loved it, so purchased this follow on book. I couldn't make out why the one other reviewer left a one star rating as Diane Allen is an excellent story teller. However now I'm listening to this I think I know why!

Tobias who we met in the previous book is born & bred in Yorkshire, so are his parents, & in the previous book they all spoke with a Yorkshire accent. In this novel he speaks posh! While all those around him continue to speak with a Yorkshire accent. The voice is driving me nuts & I can no longer listen to it.

The narrator has obviously not read the previous novel, & just because someone is Lord of the manner doesn't mean they speak with a plum in their mouth. The previous Lord of the manner didn't !

I'm unfortunately returning this, & going the read the novel on kindle instead as this I'm sure a great novel.

Format: Unabridged

Length: 3 hrs and 9 mins

Language: English

Release date: 12-02-15

Publisher: Angelica Kate

Genres: Romance, Contemporary

Publisher's Summary:

This book is part of a series, but can be heard as a standalone without a cliffhanger.

Before her death, Mama Jean, as she was fondly known by the foster children she took in, set in motion the plans for the Hertzel-Mendall Family Farm, a community established to offer homes to families that fostered children. The "Farm" offers therapeutic, recreational, and many other services all in one place to achieve the best outcomes for children in the foster care system. "Mama" Jean Hertzel fostered teenagers who had run out of options; teens who were considered unadoptable mostly due to their ages, but sometimes for other reasons. She gave them a chance when they were out of chances. Through the years, six of those young people made it all the way through her innovative program, and this group tight as any biological family, were named in her will as the team to assume not only her wealth, but the weight of caring for the oversight of the Farm. Each of them have overcome big odds, and each book in this series allows us to be part of their world for a little while.

When their parents died in a plane crash, Nick and his identical twin, Nate, end up bouncing around foster care, always trying to find a way back together. No one wants two teenage boys, until the night Mama Jean made them a deal they couldn't refuse. Now he has finished college, and is the new baseball coach and teacher at his old high school. Excited to have landed a job so close to his home and responsibilities on the Farm, he arrives ready to help the teenagers he surrounds himself with daily. The last thing he expects is to run into Hope, the girl that had left Mama Jean's program without any explanation years before.

Hope Garland is the soccer coach at the high school. The last thing she ever wanted to do was come face to face with Nick Buckman again and have to finally explain what had happened to cause her to walk away from the one place she had been truly happy.

Good read

I enjoyed this book having seen it recommended as a summer read. It keeps you guessing almost all the way through, I did work out the end before I got there, but only just, and it didnt spoil it for me at all. I found I had to keep reading, couldn't put it down, half a day sitting in the sun with a good book - my idea of heaven.

A truly wonderful ending

This is a story set over two generation bringing to you both a Mother and daughters world as you turn into each new chapter. How can love be so painful to live without?

I couldn't quite decide when I started the book is Fliss was a selfish, self-centred woman only looking out for her own happiness or if there was more to her character, of course, I won't be telling what I decided. You have to read the book to find out for yourself! There are some great characters in this book and some that will definitely surprise you, sister Maggie and Mike stood out for me.

Brilliantly written with lots of emotion and with twists and some very unexpected turns that really make you gasp. A wonderful but tragic love story that will hold your attention from the very first pages right up to the the truly wonderful ending.

What a tangled web we weave..........

Once I got the characters untangled, this book held me from beginning to end. It comforted me during a week of down-in-bed illness; a few pages at a time. How Ms. Carr kept it all straight is beyond me, but she very cleverly draws you in and keeps you hanging right to the end. And, somehow she pulls it all together and you don't even see it coming. There are a lot of ironic twists that leave you wondering if this really could have happened. In the end, I decided that it really could have. Good job.
