How To Embrace Diversity And Include Others Better with Andraea Lavant
In conversations of spirituality, we often talk about manifesting and how we are 100% responsible for our outcomes. It’s also important, however, to call out the fact that not everyone is given the same resources or an equal opportunity to have the best outcome for their life. In order to be truly expansive in our spirituality, we must acknowledge and accept that there are differences within all of us, but that we’re all capable of openly inviting differences into our lives.
She talks about…
- Having a support system and also being a supportive friend. [8:11]
- Allowing trust to guide you through uncomfortable conversations and situations. [10:35]
- Broadening the scope by which diversity and inclusion are discussed. [16:56]
- Including different voices and perspectives in all spaces and conversations. [19:42]
- Openly inviting different people, experiences, and knowledge into your life. [23:23]
- Using social media as a resource to expand your own space and explore other voices. [26:55]
- Acknowledging people’s differences and giving them the space to speak for themselves. [30:39]
- Being more proactive with inclusivity and being more accommodating to others. [40:19]
QUOTES
“Until it hits you close, we often don’t address it. So I think that is why the diversity narrative is so narrow.”
“Different perspectives really make us better. If you think about the people that you’ve gotten to know that are different from you, and how that has expanded every aspect of who you are, and not only for you but for other people.”
“I think it’s looking at who is already at your table and inviting more people. Inviting the people that look different.
