Sunday, September 21, 2025 – Today, Pastor Mike is bringing a unique message—something a little different from what we might be used to on a Sunday morning. His sermon is titled “How to Evaluate a Sermon.” Now, you might wonder why we’re taking time to talk about this. But as you know, we are in a season of prayerful searching for the next lead pastor whom God will call to shepherd this church. In the process, it’s natural for us to listen closely to sermons and form opinions. But here’s the challenge: as Superintendent Aaron Hlavin has wisely reminded us, “Do not allow your preference to cause you to miss a great pastor who may be a good preacher.” That’s a powerful reminder that while everyone has personal preferences—whether we like a certain style, tone, or delivery—those things must never outweigh biblical standards. What matters most is whether the Word of God is faithfully preached, and whether the message leads us closer to Christ. Today, Pastor Mike is going to walk us through ten steps—guidelines given by Superintendent Hlavin—to help us evaluate sermons not by our own tastes, but by God’s truth. This will serve as a healthy, biblical standard for our whole church family as we prepare for God’s next shepherd here at Center Point. So let’s worship, study, and pray together, trusting the Lord to guide us—not according to our preferences, but according to His perfect will.
