How to Fearlessly Navigate Loss and Cultivate Goodness with Kelly Geisler and Brigette Heller S.3 E.5

Listen Later

Kelly is a native Arizonan whose parents became foster parents when she was just 6 years old. Over the course of 25 years, she was a foster sibling to 125 foster kids. As a young girl she often dreamed of running an orphanage where every child was loved and cared for as her own. Kelly has been a foster parent to special needs kids since 1994 and is mom to 11 beautiful children. She feels these children have given her much more than she could ever provide for them. Her experiences have helped her develop great empathy and compassion for those who have challenges. She founded Cultivate Goodness in 2019 and hopes to inspire others to join her in serving those in need.

Quotes from the show:

I am a, a changed person because of it. But I think that's the point. That is the point of us loving others and, you know, caring for others is yes, there is loss is is a part of it. And  and I still would do it all over.- Kelli

And what I am finding is there is not anyone in this world who hasn't been through something or won't go through something this loss, this, this darkness, this place that you go to after giving so much to someone. At some point we all experie. We do. We do. And what we do with these moments, I think really is our hero story.- Brigette

So that intense loss is actually evidence of the love because you can't feel the loss without the deep love that was there. Absolutely, Absolutely. Yes. But when we feel lost it, it's really showing our capacity to give and to be, and to really, love people and that's how we change the world, is by loving each other.- Brigette

we just say, you know, put in your. And it all adds up to the, a mountain of good. So cultivate goodness, was founded, late 2019.  We are a non-profit organization and our focus is on all local needs in our communities. So we have a wide variety of opportunities to serve, but our intention is to make it easy for people to get involved and to serve others.- Kelli

Everyone wants to feel like they have value, that they are needed, and every single person wants to be seen as themselves.- Brigette

it became our understanding that to be different was good. And we got to be the people who walked with someone and talked with them. We got to be part of that, and it was an honor.- Brigette

in order to serve in love, you have to allow yourself to become something a little different than you were.- Brigette

if it's, if it's got a purpose, if it's going to evolve yourself, if it's gonna serve a community, then it's worth it and you will be better.- Brigette

Leonardo da Vinci says, It has long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them.
