Short but very sweet...and a little sad.
I liked this story a great deal. If the story was longer and had an HEA I would've loved it. It ended so abruptly that I felt a little stunned.
That being said....I still gave it five stars and highly recommend it especially because of the um...uh not so usual sexual relationship between the too main characters. I could feel both of my eyebrows rise up to my hairline almost instantly and said to myself.....whaaat!
Suffice to say those parts of the story made different and very interesting. Brenda cothern, if you're reading this review I hope you started working on part two of the Cresting Tide....because you can't leave us hangin like that. We need to get our HEA on! And we'll luv you for it! Alright people's nuff said....scroll on up there and get a copy...and your eyebrows might lift up to.
far too short
One flaw of this book is the bookcover. The model sitting on the sand (which should be black, not grey) is gorgeous but does not fit with the description of Peter. The other looks like the result of a photoshop nightmare.
Jokes aside this short story is a great romance with one flaw: it is too short.
Inspired by "The Little Mermaid" -both Andersen's and Disney's versions- it is set in an unspecified fantasy world.
The two lovers belong to wholly different worlds and it is heart-wrenching to see them growing to love each other despite the limitations they have to submit to: the sea elf cannot leave the water and he cannot even come too close to the shore while the man can swim but not for long. The way the communicate with each other, the way they make love is moving.
Too much is left unsaid, though. I understand this is a legitimate choice to prevent the story from becoming sappy but to avoid that risk things have turned hurried.
We never understand what Cuke is: he calls himself "papa" but he appears more like a hermaphrodite. He and Peter fall in love a little too quickly and the pregnancy comes too quickly. The ending, though perfectly consistent does not realease any tension. The two lovers still cannot talk to each other, they still cannot sleep in each other's arms: where is a well meaning sea witch when one needs her?
An okay story to pass the time.
First I was going to say I hadn't read anything by this author but realized I did read another of her books a while ago. I read the book Coming Home that's also by this author. I am a fan of gay werewolves and gay warlocks. And I stumbled across this book while looking for something else. It was a interesting read. I never considered sex with a merman but it was oddly intriguing. I only wish the story was a little longer.
