Useless, I think not!
I chose this story because at the time I came across it,I was also feeling useless. I have almost reached the ripe old age of 70 and have begun to wonder if I am really any good to anyone anymore. After reading this book, I realize maybe I am good to have around. My back hurts most days and I am a little dizzy sometimes but my 10th grandchild snuggles in my arms while I rock her to sleep when others are having trouble getting her to sleep.I think it's because I am like a fluffy soft pillow. My grandchildren says my cooking is the best they have ever eaten. I don't know about that but I think maybe the Lord is not through with me yet so I'll just keep on putting one foot in front of the other and do what I can for others until the good Lord calls me home. I am going to read this book to my grandchildren so they can know none of us are useless. We are all here for a reason even if we don't know what it is and as my Grandmother used to say, we won't go until our time comes. By the way,I too have an old Grandfather oak tree in my front yard and in times past considered cutting it
down but I think I will keep it. It was planted when my husband was just a toddler and it gives a nice shade plus it brings memories as we all do. A good book and food for thought.
Poignant and uplifting!
I thoroughly enjoyed The Grandfather Tree. This short story was poignant and by the end very uplifting. It addressed a sadly common issue that effects the elderly and frequently occurs after retirement. The emotional devastation of feeling old and useless is prevalent in our society. Fortunately for our main character, he realized his own value after several thought-provoking encounters. He was able to see himself as a productive member of society again. And, he also gained insight that enabled him to redefine his role in the lives of others. This emotionally-charged short story is an invaluable tool. It holds within its power the ability to teach folks of all ages the important lesson of self-worth at any age.
An Amazing Story the World Should Slow Down and Read!!
The Grandfather Tree: A Tale of Age and Usefulness is a heartfelt tale the will tug at your heart and help you understand better the inevitable process of aging.
