You'll Guess Till the End, And You'll Be Wrong

"How to Get into Harvard" is a good old-fashioned who done it in 36 pages available as a Kindle Single for $0.99. The mystery begins as they normally do: a murder, this one gruesome (but left to the reader's imagination) and on a beach. We learn early on that a girl named Amy--a forced recluse of sorts with a hyper-religious mother and understanding father who keep her sheltered from the dangerous world of adolescence and Twitter--may know more than she's letting on. While Amy is kept close to home, the desires of a teenager are raging, and she finds creative ways to discover herself. There's more to Amy's family, Detective Hall, Jonathan (the boyfriend, a suspect), Dr. Hamilton (the father, a suspect) than you can possibly imagine in this wonderful novelette.

The bottom line: if you're looking for an engrossing mystery that you can lose yourself to for about an hour, on the beach, under the moonlight, with parents obsessed over the idea of Harvard, a boy who lives to get into Harvard, murder, intrigue, and fine writing, stop right here with Mr. Micou's Novelette, "How to Get into Harvard." I guarantee you'll guess all the way till the last page.

Unnecessarily strange characters and no real plot... pointless read

I didn't really get the point of this story.... I haven't read many short stories but I was intrigued by the premise and good reviews of this one (and the price was right -99 cents!). I was definitely disappointed though.. the characters are unlikeable and gratuitously strange. The author makes very little attempt to provide context or insight into the character's idiosyncrasies. I like stories about interesting and different people, but I didn't feel as though I understood or was ever given a reason to care about the characters in this short story.
