How to Jumpstart Your Business Again If You’ve Been in a Slump | Strategy #1: Revisit Your WhyI’ve already mentioned the cure to whatever ails you in your business is action. But what happens when you just don’t FEEL like taking action in your business?
I get it. Sometimes it can be hard to make ourselves take action… especially when we’ve been in a slump and have got into the habit of allowing excuses and emotions to keep us from doing what we know we need to do.
Sure, you can grit your teeth and willpower your way through it… but what if there was an easier way?
Lucky for us, there is!
Wantpower is what happens when your desire for something is so strong, it overrides any negative thoughts, beliefs or feelings you have about the process required to get there.
Imagine that you’re going on a vacation to your DREAM destination. In order to maximize the experience and get as much time in as possible, you’ve booked a 6am flight that has you arriving that day before noon.
The downside? A 3:30am wake-up call.
But it doesn’t matter! Your desire to arrive at your destination is SO strong, you actually CHOSE that 6am flight along with all the hectic craziness that comes with waking up in the middle of the night, driving to the airport, dealing with airport security and the armrest-hogging stranger in the seat next to you because all that unpleasantness will ultimately get you where you want to go.
One thing I’m sure we can all agree upon is that traveling is not pleasant. We don’t vacation for the journey… we vacation for the destination.
Your business can be the same way! If you’re struggling with how to come up with the willpower to grit your teeth and get into action, swap your willpower out for wantpower instead.
Remember where you’re going and WHY you’re going there. Take some time to write out your “why” on a sheet of paper.
Inside the podcast episode I share one of my favorite strategies for how to take your “why” one step further and make it 10x MORE powerful, so be sure to tune in and listen up!
How to Jumpstart Your Business Again If You’ve Been in a Slump |If you have a really big “why”, it’s possible that it can seem so far off that you struggle to stay motivated in the day-to-day. It helps to create 30, 60 and 90-Day goals to keep us inspired and motivated to stay in action… especially if you’ve been in a slump!
There are 2 types of goals: Achievement-Based goals, and Habit-Based Goals.
I believe having a combination of the two is the most powerful!
One habit-based goal might be to prospect 3 people a day, 5 days a week for the next 90-days.
An achievement-based goal might be to enroll 2 new business partners and 10 new customers in the next 30 days.
Either way, your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and have a deadline. They should push you, but not so much that they make you believe you can’t achieve them. Write your goal statements out in positive, present-tense on a notecard and review them each day.
With each goal, write down 3 motivations for achieving that goal. In other words — WHY do you want that goal? How will you BENEFIT from achieving it?
Then, write down one way you’ll CELEBRATE your win!
It can be anything from as simple as indulging in your favorite latte from the neighborhood coffee shop, to going on a shopping trip or on a nice date with your significant other. Whatever it is, pick something that motivates and inspires you, then follow through and really celebrate when you get there!
Use the Simple Daily Actions Tracking Chart to track your progress and make sure you stay on track to achieve your goals!
How to Jumpstart Your Business Again If You’ve Been in a Slump |
In network marketing, success comes down to a few simple activities repeated over time to get results:
Networking and meeting new people who could potentially be the right fit for your business or products.
Inviting the people you know and the people you meet to take a look.
Following-Up with those who agree to take a look until they’re ready to make a decision.
Following-Through with those who choose to join you by teaching them how to do 1-3.
You need a solid balance of each of these actions to build a successful network marketing business, which means each week you should be doing some of each of these things!
The standard of excellence I hold myself to and teach my team is 25-14-3-1.
Meet 25 new people a week, invite 14 to take a look at my business, show the presentation to 3 new people and enroll 1 new business partner. Along the way I’ll also find some people who have no interest in the business, but would be a perfect fit for my products.
Decide on your own standard of excellence and then commit to following through UNTIL you get results. Commit to the process until. It’s as simple as that!
The Simple Daily Actions Tracking Chart will help you stay on track and recognize which of these areas you’re already excelling in, and where you can stand to get better. Commit to getting better in each area, one at a time, until you see the results. The only way to fail is to give up!

As I chronic planner, I may never understand why people hate this step. I believe it might be because life rarely goes according to plan… and people associate a change in plans with a failure to follow-through… so, in effort to avoid that, they simply don’t plan at all!
This is one of the worst things you can do, because failing to plan is planning to fail!
I’ll go ahead and save you the trouble right now by telling you your week will not always go according to plan. In fact, most weeks it will not.
Plan anyway!
Pull up a blank calendar (Google Calendar works great!) and start by filling in all the things you don’t have control over: When your kids need to be dropped off at school, when you’re expected to be at your J-O-B, church, extracurricular activities, etc.
Then, fill in the things you refuse to sacrifice: time you’ll spend eating dinner as a family, a weekly date night with your spouse, the coveted 7 hours of sleep.
Finally, fill in the remaining times with HOW you will spend that time working your business. Don’t just write down, “Work my business”… get specific!
What time will you spend networking? When will you invite? When will you follow-up? When will you work with your team?
You’re looking for about 8 hours a week, which you can break down into increments as small as 15-minutes. Although I do recommend finding at least a couple of times a week where you can work 1-2 hours uninterrupted.
Each week, adjust your schedule as necessary. Heck, adjust it daily if you need to! The point is… create a plan, then WORK YOUR PLAN until you see results!
And don’t forget to use your Simple Daily Actions Tracking Chart to keep yourself accountable and on track. I use this chart to measure my own performance each week, and I know my work-week is not done until I’ve hit my benchmarks and marked them on the chart. Hold yourself to this same level of accountability and get ready to watch your business soar over the next 90 days!
How to Jumpstart Your Business Again If You’ve Been in a Slump |
Network Marketing is a numbers game, and those who work the most numbers win. The good news is, there’s plenty enough to go around… and EVERYONE can when if they simply stay in the game.
If you really want to break out of your slump, you need to commit to the process and let go of the outcome. So you get 100 no’s your first week. Keep going! So no one will agree to watch your presentation. Keep going! So someone joins your team, only to stay in a few weeks then quit. Keep going!
You won’t find a single leader sitting at the top of their company’s compensation plan who got there without obstacles and setbacks. Trust the process. Work the numbers. Stay in the game!
In network marketing the only way you fail is if you quit!
Jordan Adler, one of THE most successful network marketers in the WORLD, was in 11 companies without ever making a dime before he went on to earn 7-figures in his next company.
Ask him and he’ll tell you what changed: himself. And his commitment to work his business consistently and professionally!
Commit to being consistent. Commit to learning how to grow your business the RIGHT way. Practice long obedience in the same direction — in other words, taking enough of the right actions consistently over time until you get results.
Print out your Simple Daily Actions Tracking Chart and commit to filling up a new chart every month for the next 12 months. I guarantee you cannot do that and still be in the same place you are today. It’s impossible!
Keep your Why and your Goals in front of you. Create a plan, then commit to working your plan until.
