I miss the point of the work. Perhaps it's about the sorrow of Rudyard Kipling or perhaps its about the sorrow of a disfunctional rural Vermont family or the sorrow of its runaway son. One drery scene after another. At least the reader was good.

This is a great book and I was SO looking forward to hearing it! Unfortunately, this recording is so muddy that the reading is often unintelligible. Let's hope another reading will be offered one day. This one is horrid! I'm very disappointed. :-(

All I can say is I loved all the Peyton Place books

All I can say is I loved all the Peyton Place books. I watched the TV show Peyton Place when I was a teenager and I appreciated the books even more because the author puts you right in the story itself.

This is one of the best books of Barbara Delinsky's that I have read. She is an excellent writer!

The plot seemed promising but...

the writer couldn't seem to get any flow going, at least not to this reader. The central conflict is barely evident and instead the book becomes a series of situational vignettes. The characters are connected but only in a marginal and coincidental way and at one point I had to double check to see if this was not a book of short stories. I usually prefer introspection over plot development (althouth there needn't be a choice) but in "The River" there is neither. I wish I had given this one a pass.

Not worth the money

This book seems to target the 15 to 16 year old group. Definitely not written for adults. The storyline is very suspect, almost as though it was written to be a fairy tale.

A brilliantly read story. ! I enjoyed it !

A really interesting and heart touching story. Read, so well, and I found it hard to stop listening!

This is a "period piece' set in turn of the 20th Century England ($). Starts in 1895, a fact I could have used in making my purchasing decision. That sais, if you read the first review of this Author's work, lovers and liars, by "Wynter' from Marina, CA, USA Date: June 06, 2005, this review pretty much sums it up. A hates B, tragically separated from C, who is hated by D and loved by Z but miraculously reunited with G, who is married to C, but in love with A, who is hated by P, and everyone is reunited and married off to one another (except for the villian who pushed A into the carriage path, the only loose string in all of this. narrated very well, just not my kind of book - trite, boring, unlikely and predictable. My mistake for not adequately investigating content beyond publisher's description.

A LOVELY STORY!

I love the Authour Josephine cox and have read many of her books - i think this is the first one i have had on audio. Carole Boyd captures the characters beautifully! I didn't want to put it down. A rather predicatble story but with a twist at the end. I love happy endings! Well worth a listen. Thankyou Josephine cox!
