Title: History for Kids: The Ancient Roman City of Pompeii
    Author: Charles River Editors
    Narrator: Tracey Norman
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 31 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 06-23-17
    Publisher: Charles River Editors
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
In Charles River Editors' History for Kids series, your children can learn about history's most important people and events in an easy, entertaining, and educational way. This concise but comprehensive book will keep your kid's attention all the way to the end.
They come in droves, busloads of tourists shepherded down through modern streets, shops, and stalls, past souvenir stands and hordes of local guides offering insight and spectacle. From all across the world they come to the Italian region of Campania, to walk the cobbles of ancient streets, peer at frescoes, marvel at sculptures, and visit the remnants of historic villas, bath-houses, and even brothels. In 2003, it was estimated these international visitors contributed some $35 million dollars to the Italian economy. A feature of the Grand Tour, an educational rite of passage for wealthy travelers from the mid-1600s to the mid-1800s, Pompeii has long been a popular destination for tourists; in 2008, an estimated 2.5 million tourists visited it.
The type of tourists also changed over time. In 79 AD, the year Vesuvius erupted, Pompeii was actually the equivalent of a resort town for wealthy Romans. Over 1500 years later, it was only the wealthy elite who could afford to travel, trekking through Italy to examine culture, art and the roots of Western civilization. They sought exposure to the relics of classical antiquity while deepening language skills, broadening aristocratic connections, commissioning paintings and generally mingling with the higher social classes of the Continent. In more contemporary times, increases in the technology of transportation allowed the movement of people from multiple social classes, scales of wealth and cultural backgrounds. The style of traveler has altered, but the attractions of Pompeii have not.

On My Bucketlist of places to visit (But not when there is an Active Volcano nearby!)
Good info and pics easily read in under a half hour. I'm just fascinated by images of what were live people now cast in concrete as result of that long ago trajedy (many questions run through my mind as to what these people were thinking and doing at that very moment). Hard to believe that while 2,000 people died back in 79 AD, another 18,000 perished in the same area mid 1600's (will people never learn?) Speaking of 79 AD, had to chortle some that midway thru book event was cited as occurring on 79 AD and a page later it became 79 BC (Charles River Editors might need some new editors if they are having trouble keeping it straight). A very good book and quick read, nonetheless!
A great overview for grades 4-6
We used this in our study of Roman. Well written, including the pre-Roman founding and how it was rediscovered in modern times. Not a highly detailed look, but a good way to get an overview of the history of Pompeii for kids.
    The City Of Pompeii
Here is the history of the city Pompeii. A city forever frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. You will learn the history of the city and see it as it is today.
    Great historical story!
Great historical story, my 11 year old son really likes this story. I do like that historical artifacts have been found.

    Really good. I lovit!!!!!!!
A good read for anybody who loves horses!
I decided to read this book because i'd read the other books in the series, however i found that when i read Coco Caramel i was left a bit disappointed. This book lacked the power, in comparison to Cathy Cassidy's other books. But all in all, it was an easy read.
Coco is in a topsy turvy family, her mum, her stepdad, step sister Cherry, a sister Summer who has an eating disorder, honey who is a rebellious teen and a dad who left them all years ago and doesn't stay in contact. Coco loves animals, especially horses. She takes riding lessons and when she finds out that one of her favourite horses is going to be sold away she tries everything. but in all her best efforts the horse is still sent away. however, the place the is taken is not so nice.Coco works hard to save the poor horse even withe mysterious school bully. Will she be able to save the horse? Will the school bully understand coco?

The Crow Knows is a fun and interesting novella about a family of peculiarly named crows who have nested in the back yard of a particular human called the "donor." Two bickering young crow siblings, Toolie and Forteist, are the protagonists. The reader is told little about the "donor" or his relationship with the crows, but the narrative hints that things both magical and sinister lurk beyond the back yard fence. The ending piques the readers' curiosity and sets the stage for the next novella in the series.
    Loved it!
A very enjoyable book. I loved every page. Members of this little crow family have unique personalities. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves adventure. I understand it is an introduction to another book. I'm looking forward to the novel that follows.

    A homeschooling parent's dream.
We love these Brian Cleary books. Absolute fantastic. So simple but so fun! We do not use curriculum in our homeschool rather we like to use things like living books as Charlotte Mason called it.
    For those unfamiliar;
"Living book (n) â A book that engages the reader and draws him or her into learning more about a subject; it is typically narrative in style and written by an authority on the material. Living books are written by someone with a passion for the material or by someone who has experienced the story first hand."
We find this style much more memorable and engaging to our kids than textbooks and worksheets. It's just good fun instead of thinking you are going to sit and be instructed on this topic as in with textbooks.
Parents, teachers. Get these books. They are so worth it. I have been building our collection and my kids adore them! And it is never too early. My son was reading our first book "How Much Can a Bare, Bear, Bear" at 5 yrs old and he had been reading independently at 4.5. Not by anything I did he and I both were just natural born readers. ;)
Another Fantastic Offering from Brian P. Cleary and Brian Gable
As I was preparing to write this review, I noticed, in small print on the front flap of my copy's dustjacket, that this book is intended for children aged 7 - 9. This was a surprising revelation, as I've been reading this and the other books in the "Words are CATegorical" series to my daughter since before she turned four. She loves them, clamors for them, hangs on to every word as I read them . . . so I would encourage parents of pre-K and Kindergarten aged children not to hesitate in introducing these grammatical concepts at an early age. These books are too fun to have to wait another three years for them!
That said, "Slide and Slurp, Scratch and Burp: More About Verbs" is a worthy addition to any child's library. Mr. Cleary kicks verbs up a notch by introducing the concepts of linking versus action verbs and how verbs relate to subjects in sentence structure. And, if this sounds like way too much for a young child to grasp, then I must tell you that everything in this book is written in verse that is sly and witty and accompanied by amusing illustrations (courtesy of Brian Gable). I do not know how Brian P. Cleary does it, but I am so grateful that he does!
I have every book currently in this series, and I will purchase every book to come. I can hardly wait to see what Mr. Cleary and Mr. Gable have up their sleeves for gerunds, participles, and the subjunctive mood.
