As we approach the 70th anniversary of the most significant UFO event of all time, best-selling author Donald R. Schmitt takes a fresh look at the renowned incident. Previous books on Roswell, including his, have focused on the witnesses, their families, and the history of the case. Cover-Up at Roswell catalogs the extreme measures the US government exercised to suppress the truth. How they silenced military witnesses clearly demonstrates their need to prevent the facts from leaking out. But more disconcerting are the tactics used against civilians and the media. Over the years, the government has actually issued four different explanations for what took place in 1947, yet Roswell remains a mystery, shrouded in secrecy, cover-ups, and deception. Is a fifth explanation at hand? Cover-Up at Roswell includes fascinating new information, such as:

The search for the truth about Roswell continues. Are we brave enough to accept it?

    Title: Roswell

    Narrator: David Zarbock

    Format: Unabridged

Length: 1 hr and 14 mins

    Language: English

    Release date: 06-19-17

    Publisher: Charles River Editors

    Genres: Nonfiction, Unexplained Phenomena

    Summary:

Few things in American history are as controversial as Roswell. The one undeniable fact is that something happened near Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947, but beyond that, the facts become murky as memories and evidence lose their luster over the years. That said, the impact of an unidentified object continues to mystify residents, visitors and the curious, and it has not only put Roswell on the map but has kept it there for thousands of tourists.

While much of the information disseminated has been in the form of press releases published in newspapers, the FBI eventually relented and released their records involving the Roswell crash. In 2011, more than 2,000 individual documents about this event were scanned and published as the digital project "The Vault", part of nearly 7,000 items on various subjects in the Freedom of Information Act's Library.

Nonetheless, skepticism about the official version of the incident prevails, and a countless number of people continue to believe the American government covered up a crash landing by aliens. As John B. Alexander, PhD, a former project manager at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and consultant to the CIA, put it, "Attempting to come to any complete resolution of the incident is a fool's errand, as whatever the truth may have been has become so distorted over time that facts have merged inextricably with fiction."

But fools did abound. The FBI, and anyone else who might have archived top secret memos, reports, or even newspaper clippings, were barraged for years with Freedom of Information requests. When the FBI finally complied with thousands and thousands of pages freely disseminated online, they were still accused of withholding or altering the facts.

    Length: 38 mins

    Language: English

    Release date: 06-16-17

    Publisher: Christina Barrett

    Genres: Nonfiction, True Crime

    Summary:

Elisa had made a habit of calling her parents every day and the 29th and 30th were no exception. That was also the day she moved in and was quickly drummed out by the other tenants because she made them "uncomfortable". Her eviction from the shared room to her own private room must have been difficult for a young woman already full of insecurities, neuroses, and esteem issues. January 31, 2013, Elisa Lam's parents, for the first time on Elisa' "West Coast Tour", didn't receive a call from her daughter. This was the day that she was scheduled to check out from the hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Lam knew her daughter well enough to know there was a problem. They contacted the LAPD and reported her missing (contrary to popular belief the federal government doesn't allow local law enforcement to issue "waiting periods" before accepting a missing person report). By the next day her parents flew to Los Angeles to assist with the search.

    Summary:

Wrongful convictions, long regarded as statistical anomalies in an otherwise sound justice system, now appear with frightening regularity. But few people understand just how or why they happen and, more important, the immeasurable consequences that often haunt the lucky few who are acquitted, years after they are proven innocent.

Now, in this groundbreaking anthology, 14 exonerated inmates narrate their stories to a roster of high-profile mystery and thriller writers including Lee Child, Sara Paretsky, Laurie R. King, Jan Burke and S. J. Rozan while another exonerees case is explored in a previously unpublished essay by legendary playwright Arthur Miller. An astonishing and unique collaboration, these testimonies bear witness to the incredible stories of innocent men and women who were convicted of serious crimes and cast into the maw of a vast and deeply flawed American criminal justice system before eventually, and miraculously, being exonerated.

Length: 14 hrs and 15 mins

    Language: English

    Release date: 06-13-17

    Publisher: University Press Audiobooks

    Genres: Nonfiction, True Crime

    Summary:

Nameless Indignities is an intriguing account of a historical true crime with more twists and turns than a roller coaster ride. If you are fascinated by history relating to crime, law, medicine, psychology, hysteria, rape, journalism, or genealogy, then this Victorian mystery is for you. The story will hold you in its grip from beginning to end with multiple suspects, a lynch mob, perjury and bribery, a failed kidnapping attempt, broken family ties, cover-ups, financial devastation, and at least two suicides.

When young schoolteacher Emma Bond was brutally gang-raped and left for dead in her country schoolhouse near Taylorville, Illinois in June 1882, an enduring mystery was born. Although she survived, her recovery was hindered by hysteria, amnesia, and some unusual physical complications. The story was covered by newspapers across the land, but some of the wounds inflicted upon the victim were so appalling that the press refused to print the ugliest details, referring to them only as "nameless indignities". Eighteen months went by before three of the six suspects were brought to trial.

After the verdict, however, the public's unwavering support for the victim began to fade amid persistent theories and rumors that she had lied and that no crime had been committed. At the time, educators, editors, politicians, lawyers, and doctors eagerly weighed in on the case and its ramifications. But with Victorian doctors unable to agree on anything of a physical or a psychological nature, Emma's life went into a tailspin from which she never recovered. The crime also took a heavy toll on local residents, pitting families and neighbors against one another. The fact that the case was never fully resolved gave it a certain staying power, with many unanswered questions.

    Summary:

On a cool, fall evening in November, 1966, five men lead by head gravedigger Kenneth Duncan set to work in a cemetery just outside of Clendenin, West Virginia. The grave that they were digging was to be that of Duncan's recently deceased brother-in-law. What happened next terrified the men and also kick-started one of the most enduring mysteries in all of cryptozoology.

A creature, described as a brown, manlike figure ascended from a nearby grove of trees and dive-bombed the bewildered group, flying directly over their heads. They had a very good view of the creature. It was 'less than a hoot and a holler away' to borrow from the local vernacular. It stayed within view for a full minute, before disappearing just as suddenly as it had appeared. This was the first sighting of the creature that the press would soon dub 'Mothman'.
