Anyone who has been in sales for any length of time will be familiar with the phrase, “I need to think about it.

Let me tell you if not already know it. This is the get out of jail card for the prospect. It lets them get away without making a commitment and it is something you want to block quickly and efficiently. Closing sales more often relies on being able to deal with this tactic, and leaving the prospect with no other option but to buy!

The prospect usually thinks that they can just throw it out there, and then walk away. And if you are not prepared, then that is probably just what they will do.

However, if you have got your challenges ready and can immediately bounce back and force them to try and justify their objection, it will put them in an awkward position of not wanting to be self-contradictory. Then, you can tighten the net and move them towards the close.
