Capturing creative and inspired photographs of women takes a lot of skill. The photographer must be technically proficient, creative, collaborative and depending on the experience level of the subject — empathetic. Some photographers make all of this look easy, but there are many ways things can go wrong when attempting this kind of photography.

In this episode I talk with Craig Colvin and Tim Engle, two professional photographers, each with different approaches to creating beautiful photographs of women.

Craig Colvin’s BIO:

Craig Colvin is a photographer and educator located in San Jose, CA. He photographs many genres, but specializes in conceptual and fine art nude photography. His current project “The Body as Art” involves using the human body to mimic shapes and curves found in nature. He loves sharing his knowledge and teaching others his techniques for photographing fine art nudes in both the studio and in nature.

Craig’s work has been published in numerous magazines and books, and exhibited in galleries and shows worldwide. He teaches numerous workshops on studio lighting, glamour, and fine art nude photography, and online photography courses through This Week in Photography School.

Tim Engle’s BIO:

Sacramento commercial photographer and native Tim Engle cultivated a passion for photography in his early teens and has since successfully turned that love into a full time career. Flowing seamlessly between portraits, fashion, avant-garde, and commercial photography, KVIE PBS selected him as one of California’s Master Photographers in 2011.
