Do you know what the difference between training and competing is? 

In training you are methodically ramping up toward more difficult weights or more volume in running, lifting, swimming, biking. And then taking the pressure off, lifting your foot off the gas pedal. 

You can only turn and burn for so long before your body or mind starts to slip. Constantly redlining your engine will not create the best results you could get whether your result is a faster marathon, swim, bike, triathlon or more weight.
